Anyone care to guess who the player might be? Ross + 24 seems plausible. Bombers need to replace Watson and Stanton.

I'd be a bit sad as I like the kid and think hes going to make it. But it might be the only way. If we get Matho/Milera/Oliver with pick 5 it will be a good consolation.

Why does it have to involve a player to be confidential? We don't want to go around advertising our offer.

Doesnt have to - I just figured if it was a player you would not want that player to know at this stage. I also cant think of any way we can get Carlisle that doesnt include either a player or pick 5.

Are you allowed to say you won't leave Melbourne -wouldn't this be construed as manipulating the draft?
I never understood how Luke Ball got away with saying he would only play for Collingwood in 2009.

Essendon have already rejected the offer, clearly viewing the give back of two second rounders as excessive.

In a response that followed the stunning bid by Hawthorn to land Carlisle, the Saints tabled an offer in which they would give up their first pick, No.5, but would receive Essendon's picks 23 and 25 - the latter having been secured in the trade that sent Jake Melksham to Melbourne.
Under the St Kilda proposal that Essendon spurned, the Bombers would also receive pick No.61 back.

Pick 23 + Carlisle for pick 5 seems plausible. Values Carlisle at pick 16.

The question has to be asked why we didnt offer this 5 days ago? They would have agreed then. Essendon can now get 15 + 18 for him and now Jake has time on his hands to think about the hawks....

My guess is now is we will have to give up pick 5 and probably only get pick 25 back - valuing Carlisle at pick 15.

So under this case - we then use 25 on Freeman and we use 24 in the draft.

Looks like this:

Carlisle, 24, Freeman, Rice

We probably lost one place in the draft (24-23) by faffing around on this.

St Kilda gives up pick 5 and 63 (after free agency)
Pick 5 = 1,878 pints
Pick 63 = 112 points
St Kilda is offering 1,990 points

St Kilda want picks 23 and 25 plus Carlisle
Pick 23 = 815 points
Pick 25 = 756 points
That means 1,571 points plus Carlisle
Values Carlise at 419 points = pick 41 (412 points)

St Kilda probably expect Essendon to come back and say only pick 25 thus increasing Carlisle value up to 1,175 points = pick 14 (1,161 points)

There is no way we were going to Carlisle, 23 and 25 for pick 5. Its not realistic. We should have sewn up a pick 12-16 earlier in the week to use on him.

If we end up with only picks 45 (378 points) to use in the draft we may not have enough points with a father son discount to secure Bailey Rice if someone calls him before pick 33.
If we do only get one second rounder from Essendon then we may pull pick 63 off the table.
Picks 45 + 63 = 459 points is more likely to guarantee we get Bailey Rice with a father son discount of 197 points = 656 points.
It would enable us to trump pick 29.
