And how can they stop it? I would suggest the AFL would want Carlisle to come to us but they cant stop it because they aren't breaking any rule at all.

Bye Jake
Why Bye? Of course he will play there if we cant do a deal. He has to play somewhere. If we do a deal he plays for us. I cant see what else he could have said.
AFAIC welcome to the Saints Aaron Francis. (Pick 5). I think he will be as good during our premeirship widow as Carlisle. And we still have a bundle of cash saved for free agency.

I actually think Francis will prove to be a much more reliable and a better choice overall.

Do you believe the club would use pick 5 as a straight swap for Carlisle?
I like the idea of a fully committed Carlisle in our backline but I also see him as carrying quite a risk - he's not been "on fire" this last season and his attitude worries me. There are also question marks over his body and durability and the dark cloud of WADA hangs over him too.
I think if we could get him on "fair" terms then it's worth the risk but I don't think he's worth pick 5 and we shouldn't give into this. There is always a risk of being gazumped in any trade - but we shouldn't pay more than fair because of this. So if Hawthorn get him, then good luck to them and we deal with what we have and move on. He is not our only option and we are still building to a bright future.
We can then watch what happens - he may be a star at his next club or a dud, but if he's with us and is a dud then at least we haven't sacrificed too much getting him.
Go Saints!!

2pm Update | Brett Anderson and Brett Thomas with the latest on the potential three-club-deal to get Jake Carlisle to the Hawks, Matthew Leuenberger and more.
"The only person who can allow this deal to go through is Jake Carlisle, he's currently overseas," Anderson said.
"My information is that Carlisle has been told to keep his phone off."
"This is a test of Carlisle's character... it's an intriguing situation."

Jake could and should say that he has committed to play with St Kilda and is confident a deal will get done - if not he will go into draft/pre season draft with nominated salary.
Good test for him - if he goes (or even indeed if he is open to the trade with Hawks if reports are true) we know he's got little integrity.

Not saying it's good but there's no such thing as integrity in the AFL or in business.
Things change and Carlise will probably continue to do what suits him.

I'd love Francis
Gehrig emerged from scans yesterday saying he was "as sweet as a bun"
I have never felt comfortable with Carlisle. The only reason he was interested in us was the money.
People need to understand that Essendon think we are rabble. It is in their dna. No doubt their coaches tell them this eveytime we play them.
My preference is we bring in Weller and also Freo's first rounder next year. We then bring in Freeman (24) and Rice (42) and we attack the draft next year and use 3 picks in the top 25.
If Weller is not available then lets just use pick 5 on a kid.

do you think he's going to Hawthorn out of love?
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

I thnk he would go there for slightly less money and guaranteed finals yes. I just dont feel comfortable dealing with the Bombers. They are evil.

Haven't warmed to him either for some reason.

look if you fancy a horse and reckon 15/1 is fair odds, then the bookie on course insists on listing it at 5/1 what do you do?

Brian Speaking confident it's all a red herring and Carlisle still to be a Saint. Silly season? All happening!
The club needs to speak to Carlisle and ask if he's committed or not, and be informed that he's damaged negotiations in preference to his old club rather than his new. He needs to come out and say "I Only want to play for the Saints" and if he's not willing to do that, then we walk away.
Hawks can offer him 200k less a year.
I'm more than happy if we use pick 5 in the draft not worth selling the farm for
