If we trade away pick 5 Essendon will just start saying we must pay whatever the next lowest pick we have. I say do this deal last.

I would like to trade pick 5 for JOM and a pick back our way. then use that pick for carlise. After all we cant give them a pick we don't have.

He went at pick 13 last year and has played three games.

Trading pick 5 there would require Weller and some steak knives IMO.

The difference between 16 and 5 = 811 points = which would mean us getting Weller for pick 23. A clear win for us.

On the other hand - if they really want McCarthy they just need a high pick. If they get McCarthy and Bennell they will be happy.

One possible way to do this is if we do 5 + 24 to Freo for 16, Weller and 35.

They can use 24 > Bennell and we can use 35 > Freeman.

We then keep 42 > Rice.

How you like that? Seems fair imho. It means Weller is worth about a pick 17. Everyone is happy. The Pies might whinge a bit about 35 for Freeman but f*ck them. He is OOC and has zero AFL games to his name. 35 seems about right.

Agree with you Con.. To get it done it would most likely require 5+24 for Weller + 17 +35.

Basically we have 2 perfect picks as far as Freo go.... 5 will be necessary to get McCarthy while 24 + steak knives would probably get Bennel done

Bumbers would have to take 17 + possible steak knifes for Carlisle.

Then we either give Pies 35 as you say or next years second.. or maybe trade out Hickey for Bulldogs 2nd (30?) and send that to pies for Freeman

Ohh... and as for my opinion.. it would be SUPER trading by us if we can pull all that off.

14 goes to essendon and we go to the draft with 9.
Third rounder for Freeman I guess , but will prob need a cherry on top as well.

Now Adelaide are saying 9 & 28 for the saints 5. I just hope we can keep 5 and ensure we get a top midfielder - nothing like getting hope for the future with youth. Take a chance and let Carlisle go to the PSD if the Bombers persist with their unrealistic deal.

No deal there. You would only trade 5 if we are guaranteed to get a very good player plus extra.

9 is too much for Carlisle and 28 too little...and so sucha deal does nt assist us.
