Let Carlton have him. Clearly they have no idea what they are doing, if he turns out alright then we can say we helped them out. If he's been over rated, then it's not our problem.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

From what I'm reading about him, doesn't seem particularly good... And doesn't seem to be the type of player that we need either

Cna't say i'm really bothered one way orcanother to be honest

He worked his way back into the game but never as good as he was on the wing for the saints.

When a player goes to play at another club he may well feel uncomfortable when visiting his former club.
But there is no such awkwardness at the new club.
The player may never receive the same love as a one club player but he is appreciated by all.
I don't know Dean Rice or anything about his social life but I am going to guess he spends more time socialising at Carlton than St Kilda.
So I have to agree with you I suspect Dean Rice sees himself in Navy Blue.

However it is well known that when a son ends up at a different club than the parents have supported all their lives, the parents support goes wherever the son is.
Even if that is Collingwood or Carlton.

You are correct ge did the same knee twice... Then went to Carlton and did it a third time, and I think it was on his first match... Very courageous player

Father was a fearless warrior for St Kilda. Stan Alves was a very smart man, but giving Dean the arse was his second dumbest ever move. I am surprised that Bailey even contemplates a move to us. Dean is still rated very highly by me and is clearly a forgiving man.

Dean Rice was always one of my favourite players -like Geary only more talented.
Saints made a couple of short sighted decisions terminating players after serious knee injuries- not only Dean but Joel Smith who went on to have a great career at Hawthorn.

One of the main determining factors will be the condition of Jack Silvagni's shoulder. Carlton will want one but not both. On a side issue; Someone I know who knows Silvagni very well has described his shoulder in that very technical/surgical fashion. It's F****D !!

They said this about Judd and he went on to win two brown lows!

Did it out at Waverly in a preseason game against the Saints.

Hey will we be able to get Baikey if he even nominates us? I don't really understand how father son rules are now. But don't we have to nominate a pick for him but other clubs can outbid you till you use your higher pick? With all the talk between Freeman and Carlisle pick 24 looks certain to be gone. And from the talk everywhere he doesn't sound like a pick 5, and with this draft being so shallow surely he will go earlier than the third round??? As I said I don't understand the father son drafting rules. Could anyone shed any light on it for me?

There is no point talking about Bailey until after the trade period is over. Father-Son rules only gets you a 20% points discount in the draft. This is equivalent to about 5 places (assuming he goes in the 30s). Without knowing what picks we will actually have - any discussion on Bailey is pointless. It does not matter who he nominates. Carlton will be in the exact same boat as us.

No. Reverse of that. There is no point us nominating a draft selection for him (especially before we even know what draft picks we will have). E.g. If another club wants to chose him at say pick 36 - then we would be able to get him with a pick 41 if we had it.

The father son rules have been changed and now the advantage is only marginal. The chances of us getting Bailey under the news rules are probably quite low all things considered. If someone wants him early 30s we would need to use picks 42+60. We probably wont even have pick 42.

This probably just means if someone asked him who he prefers out of the Saints and Blues he replied, 'Saints'.
But unfortunately that doesnt mean a hell of a lot under the new rules.

We cant have made him any guarantees because:

a) we dont know what picks we will have
b) we dont know at what point he will be nominated by another club

So the most that could have been done is we have said 'if you are still there at pick 36 AND we still have pick 42 - then we will pick you up.'

None of this can possibly be concrete. E.g If we end up using pick 42 on Freeman than Id say the chances of us getting BR are nil.

As explained above - this means next to nothing under the new rules. We still need a draft pick and only get 20% discount.

If we don't have 42 - then we cant do anything about it.
