Aaron Young
Herald Sun in reporting St Kilda is interested in Port Power's Aaron Young.
"...Port could also yet lose utility Aaron Young to St Kilda, in what could form part of a three-way deal involving Toumpas and the Dees. Young, 22, is contracted at Port next season but is open to a move. St Kilda coach Alan Richardson is believed to have a high opinion of Young, dating back to his time at Alberton as senior assistant coach to Hinkley. But Young has often been used as the sub and is eager for more senior opportunities. He has averaged 10 possessions in 42 games over the past four seasons..."
I've not seen him play but by all reports Young is hard at it and has impressed a lot of people with his skills.
Could be a reasonable pickup for a later draft pick.

Re: Aaron Young
He averaged 13 possessions with only 51% game time in 2015 - which would probably translate to about 20 possessions assuming 80% game time?
Sounds good, we need a pacy midfielder - and he's the right target age.

Have to be careful though... Didn't work out quite so well for a certain former coachdragit wrote:Picking up old mates of the coach that can't quite crack the seniors is the best way to recruit players.

Re: Aaron Young
Is he a mate of Richo or can Richo recognise talent?dragit wrote:Picking up old mates of the coach that can't quite crack the seniors is the best way to recruit players.
Nice shot at Richo's character
You are garbage - Enough said
Re: Aaron Young
Do not want.
If the deal involves Melbourne and the Toump, just cut Port out of it and deal with Melbourne direct to get Toump in red white and black.
He'd be a far better acquisition than this Young fellow.

Probably missing the mark though with your comment about character…
Coaches wanting fringe players from their previous connections/clubs are generally a bad move IMO, but not always the case of course.
Dennis-Lane & Maister have left me cold, but get on Young if you rate him

I rated Lyon's recruiting of Schneider and Dempster.dragit wrote:Nice rolling eyesBunk_Moreland wrote:Nice shot at Richo's character

Re: Aaron Young
How does Toumparse factor into the deal, reads like Melbourne trying to offload another one of their high end draft duds.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Toumpas might want port.
Likely port would get toump and give us young, give Melb a pick, and Melb get a player or pick from us. Not a top pick.

I personally think Seedsman is the kind of player we need. I have no idea why we arent chasing him.

Re: Aaron Young
Yep that was a great deal for two players well and truly in the best 22 of a premiership side… desperate to easy salary cap. Would have been good to keep Luke Ball and draft Nat Fyfe though…BackFromUSA wrote:I rated Lyon's recruiting of Schneider and Dempster.
Meanwhile Dale Thomas & Cam Wood have propelled Carlton into a bona-fide Juggernaut, like TDL and Maister did for us… and luckily we didn't cough up 2 decent picks for Mitch Brown a couple of years ago.

Re: Aaron Young
I agree I really rate him, his run and carry of the half back line could be very useful. Look at the Dogs, they have 3-4 guys playing that role. We are a bit hamstrung here, Savage, Webster (supposedly playing more midfield next year) Roberton, and after that... maybe Wright. For me he is worth pursuing.Con Gorozidis wrote:I personally think Seedsman is the kind of player we need. I have no idea why we arent chasing him.

Re: Aaron Young
re: Seedsman -
Seedsman was pick #76 in the 2010 draft. Unbelievable!
We could have also picked up Marley Williams, another quick running player - #35 in the 2012 rookie draft. Maybe just as well, as it turned out - given his off-field behaviour.

Re: Aaron Young
As much of a what the? type choice Young is... Surely Toumpas is going to take the cake for Melbournes biggest flop (which is harder to achieve than the ultimate)... Picking Jimmy over Wines will haunt them for decades

So Richardson is on a par with Watters in talent spotting and coaching according to you?dragit wrote:Yep that was a great deal for two players well and truly in the best 22 of a premiership side… desperate to easy salary cap. Didn't Clarkson coach Stuart Dew before being lambasted for bringing him into the Hawks team of 2008?
That was a terrible move I seem to remember

I don't think Richardson has many runs on the board for talent spotting does he?Bunk_Moreland wrote:So Richardson is on a par with Watters in talent spotting and coaching according to you?dragit wrote:Yep that was a great deal for two players well and truly in the best 22 of a premiership side… desperate to easy salary cap. We have a full time team doing that stuff.
Dew was an outrageous move that came off, Burgoyne was just brilliant though he was already a star…
Remember McCartney last year was trying to prize out a 30+ year old Tom Lonergan with a 3 year deal?
Maybe the recruiting team think Young is exactly what we need, but I don't like the idea of getting players because the coach knows them, TDL was a terrible recruitment from day 1
I don't recall anyone on here wanting Young before? He could be a gun, how do you rate him bunk?
