Re: 2015 - Draft & Trade Thread
There is some discussion Carlisle wants a big 4 Melb club and is waiting on Carlton to see if they will offer a 5yr deal.
Low probability he will be a Saint.

To me throwing pick 5 at Carlisle would be very lazy recruiting. Lets just scour the country and get a talented kid without spending the farm. Nick Coughlan for example.stjay wrote:There is some discussion Carlisle wants a big 4 Melb club and is waiting on Carlton to see if they will offer a 5yr deal.

Last key defender I said we should Rookie was Kyle Hartigan and he has turned out pretty good.

Who does Hartigan play for and how many games has he played?Con Gorozidis wrote:To me throwing pick 5 at Carlisle would be very lazy recruiting. In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.
Re: 2015 - Draft & Trade Thread
I tend to agree. Let's develop our own champions from talented kids- far cheaper. Only thing is we would need to be more patient with them and ultimate team success will take longer.Con Gorozidis wrote:To me throwing pick 5 at Carlisle would be very lazy recruiting. Yes, I hold similar views which I set out in another post.stonecold wrote:Jake not really a good fit for us, in more ways than one!
Essendon the club, it's officials and players, have no respect for the saints. Never have, never will. Just ask Sheedy.

We still have to make them half satisfied and willing to trade. We wouldn't want to try and pick both Carlisle and Freeman up in the PSDDevilhead wrote:What Essensdon want doesn't drive this trade it's what Carlisle wants as he is uncontractedPlayon wrote:
Yeah I agree, Bulldogs could offer a straight swap for Talia and maybe a pick, Offer less to Carlisle and a chance to play finals.
Then we have to beat that.
My gut feeling is that Carlisle is all about the money - a lesser offer with the chance to play finals from the Bulldogs won't cut it - good chance we will be a finals contender soon anyway so a larger and longer contract would undoubtedly have more appeal
What Essendon want is secondary because they won't be able to force Carlisle to play for the team offering the better trade deal from their perspective if he doesn't want to go there
It has been mentioned that Carlisle has said that he doesn't want Essendon to get shafted BUT ........... as they say ....... money talks
One thing I can tell you about Carlisle is that he wasnt happy at the Bombers obvious after the "this club is f" statement. Then he couldnt get more money on his contract. I'm not sure that its all money driven. He's obviously said to his manager, get me out of here and find me the best deal
Only Carlisle can tell you what that is. For a lot of players winning that flag is the ultimate prize so a trade to a club that is playing finals may be appealing.
Then he may think, whats the difference I'll take the biggest pay check, or I really like Carlton as a club

Collingwood defender Paul Seedsman looks set to depart the Holden Centre in next month's trade period, with Gold Coast, North Melbourne, Adelaide and St Kilda believed to be circling.

Id be interested. Probably worth about a pick 20 though. Not sure how we manage to get him and Freeman.Playon wrote:afl.com.au

Re: 2015 - Draft & Trade Thread
Well we still have 5 up our sleeves, the Carlisle deal may not happen, then theres next years picks as well,
I'm sure we could work it out, it may even make things easier

Seedsman? In racing parlance, "prefer others".

Ive never understood the binary approach to trades. Surely if Seedsman was absolutely free youd have him? Hes much better than Curren.

This is good news.dragit wrote:fantastic news!!!saintbrat wrote:Kreuzer staying at the Blues- 2 years
Pick 5 will be pick 5 minus the two NSW Boys + arguably Keays (Lions Academy) . This means we would get the 7th or 8th best player in the draft.

Re: 2015 - Draft & Trade Thread
He may be better than Curren, Con, although that is debatable, but he is a classic list clogger. He would struggle to get into what I would consider to be our best 22 in 2016, so as such I'd consider him to be surplus to our needs. I'd be more inclined to play a developing youngster.Con Gorozidis wrote:Wouldnt it depend on what for?White Winmar wrote:Seedsman? In racing parlance, "prefer others".

Their is a myth in footy that just because someone doesn't cost you much in trading terms, they must represent value. In recruiting, there is no such thing as getting something for free. Everything has a cost and Seedsman has no real value if we are serious in developing a team that will genuinely challenge for the flag in a few years time.

Correct WW let's not forget he's being overlooked by an AFL club cause he has real deficiencies
No thanks - take the chances with a youngster we have time to develop
