It does seem like that doesn't it? Oh well I'm still going. I'll be interested to see who lines up on Moore , with Delaney and Goddard both 'rested' and Lee injured. To say nothing of who will be covering Cox and Witts when they go forward.

Re: VFL Semi FInal- Sandringham Vs Pies - Sun13th- team
I understand the supporters' disappointment around selection. I'd love see the Zebs win the flag with our youngsters starring. It would bring back some great memories from the halcyon days of the VFA. I can't help wondering, though, what the response on here would be if one of Goddard, McCartin, Acres or Hickey did an ACL or some other serious injury? Would we then be screaming that the club had sacrificed our future for the sake of a minor league triumph? I'm sure the coaching staff has a plan in place that has the St.Kilda FC's best interests at heart.

You have to bring your supporters with you to some extent. Injury will be as much a risk in the every training day contested ball mock-up. I'd rather we were known for throwing everything at it at every level and being straightforward with paying members than trusting to blind faith. Although looking at our record over the past hundred years perhaps a bit more time spent on our knees praying should be considered as a strategy.

I hear you and your point is well made. I know I'm presuming, but it seems they are prioritising according to their ongoing plans.Hemi Baxter wrote:You have to bring your supporters with you to some extent. I honestly believe that Sandy could have had a red hot crack at winning the flag.
This sucks.

I think to some degree we're being unreasonable. To some degree.
I take the point on Acres. It's a shame that he's not playing and i'd like to know why.
To the poster saying Hickey could play forward... He was an awful forward last week. One good 1/4 in four is not acceptable and we all have queried whether this guy actually is a forward.
This isn't an unreasonable decision.
Delaney is well isn't an unreasonable decision on form.
I wonder if these decisions are more mutual or collaborative then ppl think.
Facts are we don't have many big forwards... Only Spencer And he was written off months ago

Pretty unfair to kick out the guys who have been getting the job done to bring in the glamour squad too. Sandy might be thinking that you are better having 22 desperate battlers who will be playing for careers out there. Guys who are just parking down there might be holding back. We have been winning with scores from guys like TDL and Saad from the forward line and lots of contribution for mids. Its dangerous to mess with the formula for finals.

What's the contractual situation like with these guys? If Pierce plays for three extra weeks does he start training three weeks later? What's better for him? Three weeks of VFL finals or three weeks of extra pre season in November?

Re: VFL Semi FInal- Sandringham Vs Pies - Sun13th- team
I think the players have to get 8 weeks off at the end of the season. I assume that would start from the player's last match. It will be the Saints call as to whether they think the players would benefit more from playing VFL finals or doing a full pre season. I'd think in most cases the pre season training will win, hence the reason so many Saints aren't playing for Sandy today even though they are eligible.kosifantutti wrote:What's the contractual situation like with these guys? Not sure that is too much of a concern, think back when we used to play finals....kosifantutti wrote:What's the contractual situation like with these guys? Re: VFL Semi FInal- Sandringham Vs Pies - Sun13th- team
I am of the opinion that having these first year, second year or fringe players that qualify to play for Sandringham would get much more benefit from playing in a finals series, than watching on in the outer.plugger66 wrote:bigred wrote:I honestly believe that Sandy could have had a red hot crack at winning the flag.

A fair bunch of these guys have spent most of the year at Sandy and got the club into a really good position. Having a tilt at the flag in that comp would be extremely good for the group.
If we are comfortable for them to play week by week for Sandringham then why should a finals series be any different?

17-14 at 1/4 time with Sandy missing some sitters. Siposs has hurt his knee
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
