Re: HARLEY BENNELL
I agree with bunk also. When we lose Roo Monty Fish Demp we need to replace them with equivalent or we go backwards. We NEED a Carlisle type player (very good backmen). MUST. We need jet midfielders that can kick and win there own ball.
We need classy x factor player that can win a game of footy.
Mine like everyone else's opinion is just an opinion. I want the saints to win their second premiership. I don't care how

There is no such thing as a no-risk player.SainterK wrote:Our team is full of choir boys?
lol, yeah that's the common belief.
thanks for pointing out how naive we all are, I really thought they were a bunch of angels. I think many of us are aware of things.
my point, is what's the rush?
take risks when we are least resembling something that could do something.
stand by the fact that risks are becoming less fashionable anyways.
hawks last one didn't go so good, neither did Freo, though drafting someone called Colin is always a risk
Every player is a risk.
It was "no risk" to take Ball over Judd with his dodgy shoulders.
Turned out Ball had years of dodgy OP and Judd was fine. That low risk decision probably cost us a flag or 2.
Harley has been at a club running off the rails and under the wing of the main trouble maker who due to his profile was allowed to do what he wanted.
i would seriously look at him given that his trade price will be discounted. We really lack players with his skill set. The Saints should at least talk to him
Armo a party boy turned himself around this year.
Stevie J is a d**khead...but would the Cats have won their flags without him.
I would love a quality young mid....but every time a Treloar type bobs up they seem to always nominate another club.

A long way off yet.
Risks are ok sometimes, perhaps if we were contending with a mature bunch beyond influence...
Bringing in Harley to coexist with a very young developing playing group that probably won't even play finals next year makes zero sense.
Smells to me, will end up at Hawks, Freo, WCE or Swans...someone contending who'll get him cheap suddenly.
Certainly not a quick fix. Overated this stuff about he will be a bad influence. I think we know we have a player on our list who has had some serious issues and I haven't seen that effect others.

Re: HARLEY BENNELL
Can we just please stop comparing him to Lovett. They arent similar. It is a mindless comparison. And if Bennell goes to the Hawks you just know he is going to be a star. Wont surprise me if he wins a Brownlow.

In both cases the key factors are age (ie both younger than Dal and BJ were) AND the $$$$ in the contract of the club they go to.
Talent is not at all a factor by the AFL in its determination( it is only indirect by what another club is willing to offer salary-wise)
Personally IMO neither Kreuzer nor Leunberger have been consistent enough, and injury free enough, to gain huge contracts. So they may not necessary gain enough to get the band 1 compo. If not, the compensation pick may be after their second pick and not their first.
So lets hope that neither land huge contracts.

It could..FQF wrote:Henderson will probably net Blues another top 10 pick.
Worse case scenario for us is that they gain picks 1 and 2 and the Cats first pick.
This will keep them a basket case for another season (as they will lack mature players) and so they wll probably get pick 1 next season too.
This would give them two seasons of early picks.

Just goes to show that for all the Pelchen spreadsheets and 'road to 2020' style planning, one crap year (sacked coach, unhappy players, wooden spoon) can all but turbo charge an accidental rebuild.saintsRrising wrote:It could..FQF wrote:Henderson will probably net Blues another top 10 pick.

Not sure about that, Lloyd said Harley was sent home from an under 18's trip years back, issues have been long standing.
Re: HARLEY BENNELL
If his issues can be controlled to the extent necessary to allow him to play for 10 years then that's all that matters. We do not need to turn him into a saint, only a Saint.SainterK wrote:how's the trip going?saintsRrising wrote:There is no such thing as a no-risk player.SainterK wrote:Our team is full of choir boys?

I am back after an amazing 6 weeks in Africa It was fantastic thankyou. We are just back after my best holiday ever!!! But lousy and no-existent internet, and so I am getting my footy fix again nowSainterK wrote:

.
Wildlife and views were the highlights...plus the food and wine My wife rates it as our best trip ever as it covered so many diffeernt things.....from the 4WD Safari to the whale watching to several days in the wine areas to the 6 course tasting menu at Africa's No 1 restuarant The Test Kitchen, and another at The Overture which also cracks the Top 10....to the big sunsets...to interactions with various locals......to all the wildlife. We had lots of amazing wildlife encounters such as walking within 10 m of rhinos....being only 10 m from two mating lions!!!!....5m from a leopard....10m from two breastfeeding elephants....watching lions hunt and eat!
Wildlife spotting from a cliff edge bungalow at OIlifants Rest Camp, Kruger National Park
Spotting lions in Kruger
Camped on the beach at Lake Malawi, Malawi - Our 4WD and tent for 26 days from Narobi to Victoria Falls

I consulted Maharishi Mike about the fate of Mr Bennell.
He said: " The sun that rises in the east will set in the west. Two birds will fly towards the rising sun'"

saintsRising. Post of the year! Terrific stuff. I have been to Malawi and that photo looks familiar (but i am sure all the camp sites look similar). Let me know if you have trouble with the bloody baboons nicking stuff from your campsite. Cheeky buggers. I certainly never saw lions mating or hunting and I have been to Africa twice so well done.
