pick 5 for Bennell and O'Meara is a HUGE risk.

O'Meara's knee is completely buggered and he may never play again.

Bennell is a risk but worth it for a second rounder
Pick 5 might end up being pick 10. Also Bennell has to be better than a 2nd rounder. How many 2nd rounders have played 90 games at 22? Newnes hasnt even done that and he is a freak. Must be 1/100.

Don't think so. Plenty of clubs will be bold.

Saints, as usual will be meek.

Saints fans will be sitting here in 5 years bemoaning another generation of wasted opportunities.

Blown his chance at a great contract and he'll no doubt have behavioral clauses written into his new contract whoever picks him up.

Well the plot thickens! Maybe saynta is right after all :-)
He has to get out of sin city.
I think Mav Weller is probably in the best position to make an assessment on HB.

No way Gold Coast will do that surely?

Only extrapolating from the fact there is a news conference about Bennell this afternoon.

I think they will just say they are looking to trade him. Doubt they would give away a first rounder for nothing.
Yup. And just in case there's any doubt, they're tweeting it ...

GC SUNS ✔@GoldCoastSUNS
The club today advised Harley Bennell that he will traded during the upcoming exchange period.

Typically, I would expect Hawthorn to be all over Bennell like white on rice, but they may be a little gun shy after their captain's recent effort. They also picked up a guy a couple of years back (Garlett?) who couldn't conform to being part of the Hawthorn family. It could be an opportunity for us.

On talent, he's worth a top 5 pick but I would think a second rounder once you factor in the risk.

Either way, still think Bennell is a risk we can take. Everyone is continuing to compare this to the Lovell trade but I don't think we can let a past decision what we are doing now. Especially how ever many years down the track it has been. Bennell is an extremely good footballer and would suit our needs perfectly.
I dont think we are going to get him. But I agree with you. It is nothing like the Lovett trade. Makes my blood boil when people say that. It is pretty clear they are comparing them because they are indigenous even though as players and people they have nothing in common. Lovett didnt play an AFL game until he was 23. Bennell already has almost 100. Just no comparison at all. Bennell is also a much better player. Tougher. More consistent. Lovett was also more troubled off field.

That's just wrong. They both are dickheads. Race doesn't come into it.
Who made you judge and jury on who are 'dickheads'? Do you know Harley personally? If not stfu. If you are just basing your 'assessment' on a herald sun photo taken in 2012 (and article by slobbo) when he was 20yo - then I think maybe its you with the personality problem.

Ill say it again for the flogs among you. Lovett and Bennell have nothing in common. They are completely different.
You are the one who seems to have personality problems, and a quick temper. Like you to tell me to shut the f*** up to my face, hero.
Oh here we go.
If you have a certificate saying you are a certified personality assessor then thats fine. You can call anyone you like a d**khead. Thats your specialist skill. You are just doing your job.

Channel 7 didn't even mention us as interested. Only 4 clubs and we weren't one of them. Looks like we don't have confidence in our club chiefs. Disappointing really.

Or we have another better plan that doesnt involve recruiting Harley Bennell - is that too hard to comprehend??

Why are GC keen to move him on?
Is he a team player?
Does he conform to the standards that we now require from our squad?
Will he fit in?

All questions that both you and I have not a single answer for

He has also missed a third of each of the last 3 seasons - injury prone??

Not disappointing at all considering 11 other clubs are not interested - good player but their will be others

In a weak and compromised draft I will be disappointed if we just use our draft picks. I would use our first for Bennell and our second and a player for Carlisle.

Well you have no idea if we have a better plan but it doesn't seem a guess that we aren't interested. GC want to move him on because he has stuffed up a few to many times. The GC area isn't a great environment for someone like him. I think he would be better placed in Melbourne. Of course we are all guessing but in a draft where we are likely to get pick 9 I would at least be hoping we have or do speak to him.

What about we give pick 5, and swap our second round picks and get their 3rd rounder?
They won't use their 3rd rounder anyway.
Upgrades our 2nd rounder a couple….

It seems it doesn't matter what we want to do because we aren't a club that are interested if channel 7 got it right.

Pick 5 for Bennell AND O'meara? GC wouldn't even laugh at that because it would be too obvious that we were taking the piss.

If they put the offer to us though and for some reason we didn't take it in a heartbeat I would seriously question the people running the club.
