Controversial but I am not convinced. Looks to me like a Mark McGough type. May have already seen the best of him at 19 yo. Not sure about his upside at this point. Looks like he is 35. Was off the pace tonight.

was thinking along these lines for a bit of tonight
thought he was important in ythe last 15 minutes though... got a bit of the ball in that period and did something each time
Jury is out i'd say... too early to write him off, that is for sure

Didn't he strain his groin a bit earlier on in the game ?

I don't think he was at full fitness

.......hummm....yes a worry....he shares some of the early traits we saw in Lenny and Luke Ball.

.........lucky for Luke that Ross Lyon isn't coaching....else he be banished for his lack of pace and inability to spread..

The expectation for players like Dunstan is that they get better as they mature

Luke's progress has IMO been outstanding to date... he's played most games over 2 seasons and a number of good ones

Like most he will have flat patches

I think he's coming along nicely

I agree. He may have had second year blues but he has been far from poor this year. Probably needs a special trick to eventually become elite but it is only his second season.

Once again do not understand the queries on this kids ability??!!

Thought he was great last night. And for a 2nd year player he is travelling extremely well. 20 possessions majority of them effective..what's not to like?

I think it is unlikely he will become elite, but he there is enough there he will be a 150+ game player at solid B grade level.
He is a natural footballer who needs another level of fitness as Armo did.

I understand the point on tricks, but I ask the question of what tricks does Jordan Lewis have for instance?
I think Dunstan has enough toughness to become like Lewis.

Lewis was just about only an inside player but got fit and is now and in and outside player. Not sure if it is a trick but it changed the way he played. Dunstan has to do something like that and if cant he wont get to the next level. Not all players can be at the next level.

Didn't his shoulder surgery at the end of last season mean that he didn't get a full preseason?

Will be better again next year but now we need fast mids with good skills.

Yeah I thought he was pretty good, it was a tough game of footy... Probably in our best dozen or so last night?

No speed demon granted, but a few more pre-seasons will help.

He has the football smarts and is young - exactly what specialised AFL coaching is there for. There still should be lots of room for development next year.

His lack of pace is a bit of a worry though. Give him time.

The other thing we need to factor in is that if we actually draft/trade in quality midfielders, the defiencies in Luke's games won't be so marked.

A players like Hayes or Dal to a lesser degree were never overly quick but having faster players in the team drew away from that flaw and allowed them to better utilise their strengths. For Lenny it was toughness and leadership, for Dal it was disposal and composure

He's not 100% fit.

And he's too heavy in the legs.

Will have a breakout next year. He is a gun.

Have a look at Selwood. Don't tell me he's fast. Swan, definitely not fast, Mitchell?

Who says you have to be fast to play AFL. Give the guy some time. Hasn't played 50 games yet, so save the judgment.
