Damn it - just saw this now!

George Young was one of my heroes in the 70s.
Something about the way he moved, he always looked exciting.
And he could kick goals - his six goal demolition from a flank of Essendon in the 73 Elim Final was the highlight.
He kicked four goals or more on 30 occasions in a 108 game career including one bag of 10.

Was also a very handy cricketer - played at Shield level.

Would have loved to hear his reminiscences!

But George was a more natural FF type. And he was a bit more of a laid back character than Rod.

Rod was an enforcer and a bit more of a tall half forward flanker.

It was at Victoria Park and I was with my godfather there. WE killed em and that stand was empty and Georgie kicked abag - look it up again.

George kicked 8 that day, his second game as full forward.

His first was the week before at Western Oval where he kicked 9 against the Dogs.

After the Moorabbin game he kicked 1 against North Melbourne in atrocious conditions at Arden Street before finishing off the season with something like 3.5 against the Tigers at VFL Park.

Although he had kicked quite a few goals before that time, those 21 goals in the last 4 games of that year signaled the birth of a new goal kicking star.

Wow - great memory. If we won that match, then that was the day. Maybe it was Lofts I was thinking of. I was only 8, but that day at Vic Park stands out in my mind. Gary Lofts was another player we never hear of these days. He had a brother who played for us too, didn't he?
