Is Longer injured? Does this represent a shift in who's #1 ruckman?

Longer was subbed for concussion so perhaps it is precautionary.st.byron wrote:kosifantutti wrote:@AFL_PKeane: StK v Frem;

This is a big game for Hickey - his chance to show his worth in the #1 role.

Probably the toughest assignment in footy. Surely whatever the result he gets another week unless he is completely useless.

Yep he has really struggled. I know people want guys to play 4 or 5 in a row but he is the perfect example why it shouldn't happen. If he plays this week and continues his poor form it stops another young kid getting a go like Wright or Acres not that either is certain to play.

I can just imagine how good this team would be without all the injuries and stuff they are dealing with. I guess, that's sports for ya!

Nobody is saying that players completely out of their depth should be gifted games like you've implied.
Clearly Eli isn't ready at the moment and has players that play his position waiting to come in
There comes a point though where players that have earned a shot with consistent form in the VFL and have shown encouraging signs get a decent shot. Acres for example, it would be good to see him get a few games back to back and not dropped if he comes on as the sub and doesnt excel right away

Re: Squad v Dockers
Think we have done extremely well this year rotating the majority of our squad thru the senior team
Obviously it is very important re: development of our younger players to give them a taste of senior footy so they come to understand what is required mentally and physically to make the grade and ultimately it gives them something to work towards.
Hopefully we see a few more come in before the end of the season ie: Markworth, Murdoch

Re: Squad v Dockers
Eli has had a few consecutive games now and has not made any impact whatsoever, so it's time for another young guy to get a run.
Dunstan has looked as though he has been carrying an injury of some sort for a while now. it's time to give him a good rest, as he is a future long term player for us.
Longer didn't get a touch last week and with concussion, needs at least a week off. It's also a chance for Hickey to show what he has - not an enviable task against Sandilands!
I would like to see Acres and Wright get a run this week.

I didnt imply that at all. many have said when players come in they should be given 4 or 5 games to see how they go. I would actually suggest your post is a hindsight post because I doubt I will find you or anyone else suggesting Templeton was out of his league. I have said many times if a guy struggles they must be dropped and many have said no when I have said what happens if they get 5 or 6 possessions for a game or two and its still no.
Acres is a terrible example as well because he has played no better than Templeton in the VFL. All players should be dropped if they play badly. No gifting games and it looks like the coach thinks like me. And im guessing most supporters would be the same based on aho they want dropped after a couple of ordinary efforts. The funny thing is people who want these guys to get extended runs somehow also want young guys to be picked. Cant have it both ways.
