Bombing is what you do when you can't hit a target.
It comes down to kicking skills.
These usually have to be recruited rather than taught to senior players.

Re: We are so dumb
It's not about hitting target with the bomb, you have to back the boys to play to the biggest strength this year which is forward 50 pressure. Even if it gets out a few times you can't give up on what's done the job for most of the season. Get it deep and win the ball and if we don't pressure the turnover.
That and we can't kick skillfully enough.

Re: We are so dumb
Because our ball movement forward is so slow it allows 18 opposition players to flood back and fill holes. We are so concerned with switching play we forget to look directly forward on most occasions. In Richo's defence when we do move at pace into the F50 we cant hit a target, hence trying to use slow controlled play.SaintWal wrote:Why do we bomb it long to outnumbered players time after time?

Need to get players who can hit a target. Hawks wouldn't play most of our team due to kicking skills. They've set the benchmark, we need to emulate them.

Saint Wodonga said ;
won't recruit great users of the ball.
How many hundred times has this sentiment been echoed on this site in recent years It's just that the Recruiters don't look, cant' see, don't know,Need to get players who can hit a target. Re: We are so dumb
Richo has a lot of work to do at the moment if we're going to keep progressing- some structural problems, plus skills problems he needs to fix. One big problem is the forward line setup and how the forwards play as a unit, with the inability to score from the amount of entries into the forward line, and secondly the ordinary clearance work, especially at centre bounces, and it all adds up to inability to kick big winning scores..tie that in with the general poor foot skills, with our without pressure, in some cases handing the opposition a win, and that's a lot of core work to do.
Richo did mention in his presser that he wanted to get the forwards to get clear of their opponents, and I have noticed recently that the forwards just don't lead to space enough and provide options for the ball carrier, so we see a lot of bombing as a result. I would like to see Bruce get away from his direct opponent a bit more, provide a leading option, instead of trying to win one on ones close to goals- he was doing this weeks ago and was becoming a mobile, big marking forward, but now seems be a lot less mobile in the forward line and not getting good bags of goals..if it's a form thing, then he should have a trip to Sandy VFL.
We need a better goal output from our key position forwards, and need more goals from the midfield.

Did you have Bruce down for 42 goals this year? Don't think KF are the issue at all.
