He could make a lot of money like that.SainterK wrote:Dangle him on a line and see what's biting.

For somebody that wants Geary as our next captain you are being a bit hard there K,SainterK wrote:Dangle him on a line and see what's biting.
Sure Gilbert turns it over but usually 50to 80 metres forward from where he first got it.
Geary on the other hand..

Re: Sam Gilbert - Does he have a future?
He is great at breaking the lines and our second best intercept mark behind only Dempster.
Let Webster and Roberton have the HBFs and give Gilbert a wing and that is a pretty handy combination.
A couple of years left in my opinion.

Geary's disposal has improved a lot this year.whiskers3614 wrote:For somebody that wants Geary as our next captain you are being a bit hard there K,SainterK wrote:Dangle him on a line and see what's biting.

He seems to respond to Richo's coaching.
One year will be our year

Like Steven not only is the kicking poor but the options they choose often remind me of Raph and some of the free kicks he (Geary) gives away are Dawson like!

He's had a future for the last 10 years and I don't see it changing anytime soon.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: Sam Gilbert - Does he have a future?
personally I just don't think he's that good.
His last really good season was what 2010?
It's a long time to see him get back up to standard and when he gets fit, he doesn't stay fit.
How much longer do we want to wait?

Re: Sam Gilbert - Does he have a future?
Gilberts defenders are right to point out that he is very talented, he can do a lot of things better than most in the comp, the problem is the unforced errors that seem to accompany his occasional brilliance.
He had a great game last week and has a few per season but most games I feel he doesn't really contribute much because he will cancel out his own good work. I don't think he is at any risk of being desisted but I think going forward he is a fringe player who will play mostly in the seniors but go back to the Vfl when a youngsters form demands selection.

Re: Sam Gilbert - Does he have a future?
Gilbert doesn't have the currency so why trade him for a pick when that pick could end up worse than him. Better the devil you know than the devil you dont

I cant remember tha last time he was dropped so I cant see that happening to much. Vital player because of his versatility.

Vital plugger!?
Really? A guy that's played SFA good footy in four years and you describe him as vital to the team
You're entitled to your opinion and I respect that but I don't get it

Well I dont think it is 4 years but have you noticed how we have struggled for the last 3 years. Maybe that is part of the reason.

We've bottomed out cos Gilbert has been injured? Small part if any.plugger66 wrote:skeptic wrote:Vital plugger!?

Re: Sam Gilbert - Does he have a future?
Based on today's result I'd say we need him badly. And Dempster too, to play on for at least two years. Joey and Roo as well.
Think Fisher, Ray and Schneids will retire, although Ray may spend a year on the Rookie List, for depth.
5 more games to go, I hope they don't all go as badly as today did. Can see at least one 100 point mauling coming up, especially if Nick and Gilbert remain out of the side.

Gilbert truly is the Shane Watson of the Saints.
Divides opinion. Promises the world. Had a big 2009, injured or out for form since. Has lots of trouble with his foot-work.

Out of contract. I think he'll be used as trade bait to get a potential deal across the line. If no deal gets done.. he'll stay for the remainder of his career.

To paraphrase yes Gilbert not having played good footy for years has contributed to our slideplugger66 wrote:Rosco wrote:We've bottomed out cos Gilbert has been injured? Small part if any.plugger66 wrote:skeptic wrote:Vital plugger!?

Whether he is capable of producing good footy in the future is what we're debating

Ok I think he will. No idea how this ends though. All I know IMO is he is important to us. You don't. That's fine.
