How can anybody, no matter how internally strong they are, go through extreme workplace harassment, and have your beliefs as to the cause continually questioned by media personalities who do not have the faintest idea what it is to be a proud aboriginal in White Australia.
We can all stop booing, but the damage is already done.
I do not particularly like Goodes style of play, but he is an acknowledged champion of the game.
To see him depart the game in this fashion is disgusting.
It doesn't matter whether you think he brought it on himself by his actions or words, he holds deep and considered views about his heritage and his people. Who are we to mock those views. As a wise man once said, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone".
Good link, really good post.

When he pointed that person out so that security knew who it was, he may not have realised that persons age.
Being escorted up the aisle by security and interrogated by the police with no other adult present (boo to the police for that) was more than enough.
Leave it that.
But when Adam Goodes held a press conference the next day and said ""Racism has a face. It's a 13-year-old girl." he went way over the top.
Publicly humiliating her not because she, a 13 year old deserved it, but only to push for his own political agenda.
He did not care whether the kid lived or died.
Fortunately she was tough enough not to suicide but then Goodes would not have cared.
All he cared about was his war.
His actions were one step above paedophila.
Worst: Paedophilia
Second Worst: Bullying a child
Third Worst: Racism
I will defend any child white, black or brown against paedophiles, bullying and racism in that order.
I will not be intimidated by political correctness.
I agreed with the first part of that but saying it was paedophilia is just completely and utterly wrong
paedophilia
/ˌpiːdə(ʊ)ˈfɪlɪə/
noun
noun: paedophilia; noun: pedophilia
sexual feelings directed towards children.
Are you accusing Adam Goodes of having sexual feeling towards a child? If so you should be sanctioned by this forum and have a good lookat yourself.
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and rationalise that you are ignorant.
What Goodes has done could be described as bullying, at extreme rationalisation, child abuse. (which would be very very harsh)
But to equate it to paedophilia is just beyond the pale.
Whatever "crime" Goodes has done in your (and mine and anyone elses) eyes, surely he has paid for it?
Surely you can see that compassion for the man is what is required.
he stuffed up in my eyes with that attack on the girl. But we all make mistakes. She made a huge one by (ignorantly) racially abusing Goodes. He was right to point her out, but made a mistake (in my opinion) in vilifying her the next day on National TV.
But enough is enough ace, don't equate what Goodes did with peodaphilia for gods sake.

I really think the only people who would still boo Adam Goodes would be the out and out racist, the pig headed ignoramous, or the ones who lack any compassion for the mental state of a fellow human being, or those who lack of common decency.
Really is it too much?
What a pity Adam Goodes didn't have compassion for the mental state of 13 year old fellow human being when he said "Racism has a face. It's a 13-year-old girl."
Where was his common decency.
The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

He has paid for that 100 times over. For god sake just don't boo the guy. Are you the type that keep punishing people after they have already been punished? I suppose you would hope people who get out of prison after serving their time never get a job.
And remember if the girl never said the racist comment even if she didn't know what it meant, there would have been no issue. Just don't friggin boo otherwise you are a racist or a bully or just a really s*** person.

I'm always interested in hearing white middle class folk living in a white country give advice and pass judgement on the reactions of minorities that have been racially abused.
How dare they get upset.
They should be calm and civilised. Like us white folk.

Completely agree.
I know a few who have a contempt for fundemental principles like the law, democracy and civil society. They also reject logic, reason, science and objectivity. While their thinking is bogged down in ideology and dogma, their major problem is the certainty in their beliefs or worldview and a complete lack of imagination. Hence, their inability to see an issue from another point of view or outside their rigid framework. The enlightenment just never happened for them. f****** ignoramuses.

Just read a very disturbing article in the Hun the Sydney Cheer Squad is going to arm themselves with projectiles (eggs) and attack anyone who booes Goodes.
This is outrageous. They are not a vigilante group.
More than that ALL cheers squads are under AFL administration.
Does the AFL sanction this obvious escalation in crowd violence because that is what it will lead to.
This is the terrible thin end of the wedge if this is allowed to happen.
Anyone have an AFL admin email address I can forward my concerns onto? None on their site.
I seriously don't want to go to AFL matches if the cheer squad thinks it can dispense justice in a violent manner.

Interesting piece by Fleur Anderson on Adam Goode's in today's AFR.
When Tony Abbott presented Adam Goodes as Australian of The Year in January 2014, he praised the footballer for his leadership in the fight against racism and the personification of the very best of Australia.
“You are what the rest of us might be – if only we kept our new year’s resolutions and heeded our best instincts,” Abbott said at the time.
“You are a living embodiment of our country at its best.”
Eighteen months on, the time is coming for our Prime Minister – not a bullied and despondent football star – to remind us of our best selves, shining a path away from the ugly tribalism emerging on the sidelines of sport, politics and the media.
Good luck. Tony Abbott’s modus operandi is hate, to provoke wildly irrational responses to reasoned policy, to divide and conquer, his regime is partly responsible for the milieu behind the booing of Adam Goodes.
But it is only possible because it is tapping into something broader and deeper. And that is what I wish to discuss today (if you’ll forgive the indulgence on a lazy Friday). The moniker of “racism” that is being applied to booing Goodsey is almost certainly right for some but it’s gained such momentum, I think, for another reason.
Adam Goodes has become an unAustralian icon. He is tall, proud, (my sister-in-law tells me “sexy”), talented, successful, well-spoken and, most appallingly of all, exudes quiet self-regard. So much so, in fact, that when confronted with racial abuse from any quarter, including 13 year old girls, he neither flinches, laughs nor looks away. He addresses it as any gentleman would.
How can we hate that, you ask?
It’s not that hard to understand. Australians are a nation of outsiders and self-haters. Indeed, to be Australian today means that you are either a displaced immigrant or the progeny of one. Moreover, 200 years of said emigration, born in the conflicted ethnicities of the old world, has birthed a nation that lives precariously at the fringe of an alien continent. Our institutions, psychologies, culture and imagination remain European but our home is not. It is a vastly indifferent continent where the mark of man is absent. And so we live estranged from ourselves protected by a canopy of self-disparaging humour.
That certainly has its upsides. We enjoy a relaxed lifestyle for one, remarkably free of conflict as well, despite our mixed heritages. Multi-culturalism works better in Australia for this very reason. Because estrangment is the heart of the national character, those who arrive estranged fit right in. They need only adopt the laconic self-hate of the Aussie mate to “assimilate”. Black, white, yellow, green, gay, toothless, all can be Aussies of equal standing so long as they’re happy to stare into the dirt, laugh off the slings and arrows of life and labour on in smiling self-contempt.
That’s quite an achievement, if a little back-handed!
But it comes at a price and that is that we despise the opposite. When someone stands up for a cause we’re suspicious. When someone has passion for a cause we’re downright contemptuous. When someone plonks himself into the centre of our circuses and calls out that he’s not putting up with abuse, especially if that someone is not estranged at all from his land, then he’s poking a nasty, dirty spear right in the hollow heart of Australiana, and he is going to be despised for it.
Is that racism? Sort of. We don’t despise Adam Goodes because he’s black but we do despise him because he belongs and we, proudly, do not, to even ourselves.

So they're really all just booing themselves. The End.
This whole saga has gone on long enough, wont be booing him unless he does something bad to one of our players. My beef is more with Sydney itself and how the rules were bent to accommodate both Tippett and Franklin.
Any other club and they wouldn't be having a pick in the draft for a couple of years.
My only advice to Adam, especially when they were playing Carlton, instead of the war dance just point to the scoreboard to remind them how bad their team is.

You are just so thoughtful and caring for 13yo girls. Cut me the crap, lame, excuse for beating down on Goodesy.
The girl, so relaxed and comfortable to hurl racial abuse isnt public isnt ok, regardless of level of awareness . She and those who give cover to her deserve to be called out. Its not cool. Shes not a victim. Sure she was unlucky to be pulled up but so what. If a 13yo kid is throwing rocks at cars, they will get pulled up and humiliated by the cops or some adult. Sometimes kids needs to be taught a lesson. Turning her into Joan of Arc is a serious joke.

Yes it was. A round to celebrate the contribution of aboriginal players in our game. That was the round where a bunch of people with at least one child among them decided to loudly remind Adam Goodes that he reminded them of an ape. Their football club president, a media expert, repeated the view well after the game.
That was also the round where Adam Goodes, booed to the heavens for the gaul of using his platform of winning AotY for his contribution to the aboriginal community to remind Australia that there is much work to be done and his reaction to the aforementioned event, decided to celebrate a goal in the heat of battle with a ceremonial war dance to join the AFL in celebration of aboriginality.
Maybe we should have a BACK IN YOUR BLOODY BOX round where all players play in 2nd hand clothes and get shunted into council housing at the end of the game. That seems more to the public's liking.

Maybe the plan is to make people so sick of hearing about the bloody booing that they're all too scared to boo in case it's dragged out for another week?
