I am a bit worried. If the Lions get a PP and the Swans and GWS use their academy picks it means we drop way down the order.

Yeah but picks don't matter Con - you can pick up aRiewoldt just as easily at pick 57 than 1, that's why clubs give high picks away cause they're just worthless!!!Con Gorozidis wrote:I am a bit worried. “Yeah….nah””
Re: Brisbane Lions - PRIORITY PICK
Not going to get a round one pick. Who cares if its round two. Doubt they will get either though.
Re: Brisbane Lions - PRIORITY PICK
Swans & GWS are only going for their academy kids if forced too which they have priority over, it is not going to effect our drafting.Con Gorozidis wrote:I am a bit worried. If the Lions get a PP and the Swans and GWS use their academy picks it means we drop way down the order.
As to whether they get a PP let's see. We had a shocking couple of years and never received a PP - I would think they would need to have another shocker before qualifying.
AFL seems less inclined to compromise the draft these days.

Re: Brisbane Lions - PRIORITY PICK
The AFL needs Qld & NSW teams to be successfull so they can get more money from the media deal.
So I'd say the AFL would be inclined to do whatever it takes

I would agree with you and probably agree with the idea but its seems strange they would change the academy pick process. I think they want most things level unless they become really bad. There is no doubt eastern interstate side will get help if they are hopeless because the AFL need them more than the bottom Victorian sides. And that's bottom in support.

Re: Brisbane Lions - PRIORITY PICK
Are you sure it doesnt affect our drafting? If those NSW boys are removed and they were nominated as top 5 then we effectively fall two places. If the Lions get a PP we could end up with effectively pick 9.stjay wrote:Swans & GWS are only going for their academy kids if forced too which they have priority over, it is not going to effect our drafting.Con Gorozidis wrote:I am a bit worried. "Now the ball is loose, it gives St. Kilda a rough chance. Black. Good handpass. Voss. Schwarze now, the defender, can run and from a long way".....
Re: Brisbane Lions - PRIORITY PICK
Last year Mills and Hopper would have, as academy players, been simply taken by GWS and Swans by their first round pick (assuming they were nominated by another club in the first round).Con Gorozidis wrote:Are you sure it doesnt affect our drafting? No-one really has access to them unless GWS and Swans refuse to match the bid then we would have more chance to get the player we want (as per your mock draft) - that's highly unlikely.
You can virtually put a line through them.
So assuming they're taken they would appear ahead of us in the draft nominally but not truly affect our access to the available talent.
I would count them out of the equation similar to you compromised mock draft.
Btw I can't see Melbourne going for another mid like Parish but if Brissy get a PP and we accept they are going to lose Aish then they will take a highly-rated mid.
The combine is going to be very interesting, the late bolter could be Charlie Curnow, he is a bigger utility type that would fit a few of the clubs currently in front of us.
