Sam Gilbert - Does he have a future?
Injury prone
Too short for a key position
Poor disposal hence limited capacity to provide run
The only redeeming feature i see atm is that we are really short on depth in the backline
What do others think?
Should he stay? What position?

Re: Sam Gilbert - Does he have a future?
Has really started to play well. Hurt his groin. Big deal. Very important player to us due to his speed in the backline. He is a genuine HBF who has been forced to play taller than he should because our backline was to stagnant with Delaney in it.

Re: Sam Gilbert - Does he have a future?
If he can't hold down a wing/onball or half fwd spot he should be out of the side. A liability down back when kicking under any pressure. Less pressure up the field. Today's HBF's need some kicking skills.

Re: Sam Gilbert - Does he have a future?
He has improved a great deal in the last few weeks. Apparently he'll only miss one week. But on the form he has shown in recent time, it would be fair to say he still has a future.

I thought he had such a good game last week he will probably play on now. He chose a good time to pull out his best footy.

Tough player.
Runs all day
Played a great role linking up the back line to the forward line last week.
If he wanted to go and we could improve our 2nd pick I'd be happy

Definitely a keeper.
Breaks lines and drives the ball forward regularly.
Another two years please.

Re: Sam Gilbert - Does he have a future?
One of my favourite players, runs hard in straight lines, tackles to hurt, aggressive, courageous always gives it everything he has. Yes he makes mistakes, but I love the fact that he never drops his head he just goes again.
He is a definite keeper our backline is so much better with him in it

Re: Sam Gilbert - Does he have a future?
I liked his game on the weekend and the week before. Is he in our best 22? No doubt. But I also don't think we should exaggerate his importance. I thought the press conference when he came back to footy was over-kill for a player whose output has been very moderate the last 4 years. We have won plenty of games without him. I think we just keep him now. With Dempster and Chips retiring he becomes more important.plugger66 wrote:Has really started to play well. Hurt his groin. Big deal. Not all footballers die once they retire from playing football.
He may not live much past 120 years of age but I do think he has a future.

Re: Sam Gilbert - Does he have a future?
This is the type of thread you'd expect with a youngster. Gilbert is almost a veteran and has proven himself to be capable. We know what we're getting with him and his future is secure in the medium term. He has characteristics that address deficiencies in the team.

Re: Sam Gilbert - Does he have a future?
He is younger than Fisher and Dempster, removing him would be a mistake for obvious reasons.

Re: Sam Gilbert - Does he have a future?
Should have been traded three years ago. We'd have got real value then, even though he was very ordinary.
Too old now, we'll just have to put up with his shocking disposal.

Old enough to repaint, but young enough to sell
