I beg to differ.plugger66 wrote:#gosaintas wrote:Stupid thread
Good imput. I like your style if I was a mass murderer.
In no way is Plugs having a go at the young kid.
Having played and suffered shin splints, they're very manageable. However, they will keep you away from your peak for a couple of months (obviously depending on severity and body). From what I've heard and experience, is that rest is one of the best treatments to Shin Splints, I kept reinjuring mine as I didn't give myself time off. I wouldn't be surprised if it occurred as a result of the muscle he put on in the off season.
I personally think he shouldn't play the rest of the year, and manage the injury. But I don't think it will be a problem come round 1 next year.

At the moment it is a worry.. The club will have to be very cautious with him cause with don't want our first round pick to have an injury plagued career

Re: Is Jack Billings a worry
Obviously would prefer that he wasn't injured but it seems like they are being extremely cautious and treating him like the precious jewel in the crown which he is.

I whole heartedly agree. None of us, or afaik, went to med school or have ever met the kid.#gosaintas wrote:Stupid thread
Any guess is just that, a guess. so htfwwk.
Re: Is Jack Billings a worry
A few posters going off the deep end only due to the author, not content. Fair question, and much better than a lot of crap that gets posted on here (and everywhere else for that matter).
Personally don't think it'd be an ongoing issue for him, as the injuries seem unrelated.
However I'd be slightly worried if he goes through similar in '16, irrespective of it type of injury. Don't want him to be a Higgins first half of career and never get a shot at it, only to come good elsewhere.

Re: Is Jack Billings a worry
Billings certainly has the type of class we really need at St Kilda. If we are to reach the finals and contend in 2017-2018 we definately need out 1st round draft picks to perform consistently at a high level.
Wasn't it great to see McCartin, Goddard, Lonie & Sinclair against Melbourne, only McKenzie was missing.

Gotta say the baiting in this place is just plain boring. Not saying anyone is better or worse than anyone else...you can draw your own opinion if you have the will.
Fact is plugger has raised a legit question that I was quite interested in responses to and all we get is nonsense.

I think some of these answers says more about the posters than the thread topic. Some take things that personally that they cant give sensible answers. All good though. Just confirms my thoughts on a few of their footy brains. Lack of footy brains I mean. Usual suspects.

Totally agree. Some people are making it their mission to target Plugger in every thread in some kind of bizarre revenge for being on this site so much or disagreeing with them, ironically bringing out his worst elements. Just petty from them.MC Gusto wrote:Gotta say the baiting in this place is just plain boring. I thought the question was entirely reasonable and if a poster by another name (not Lenny Haze ) had posted, this thread would have been much more enjoyable to read.
To the usual suspects: Get over your Plugger hate please and make a positive contribution to the site.

Re: Is Jack Billings a worry
Since the start of 2013, Billings has suffered:
- Knee bursitis
- Quad strain
- 2 x hamstring strains
- Tibial stress response/fracture
Of those, only the hamstrings are of any concern to me. Like a few on here have mentioned, Jack has put on a significant amount of weight since he arrived at the club and is very young. Earlier this year I heard a lecture by Alex Kountouris (Cricket Australia physio) who said that you just need to hold your breath and take what comes with fast bowlers until they reach the age of 25 when their body matures and is conditioned to the rigours of the sport. I am fairly confident in Billings and the medical staff turning him into quite a durable player in a few years time. Just need to look after those hammies.

Slight build.
19yo.
25 senior AFL games.
Very pleasing development.
To be honest I only thought he would be up to 15-20 games at this stage.
He is ahead in my books.

Re: Is Jack Billings a worry
His body has struggled with the demands of AFL football to this point
This actually seems to happen to a lot of players coming into the system and demonstrates why it is important to:
a) ease players into the system
b) not write them off too quickly if they aren't world beaters right away
It also makes u appreciate just how special a guy like Dunstan is who seemingly just walked in and seem to be able to handle the rigours in the middle
I think the right thing to do is be ultra cautious with Billings and rest rest rest before he actually seriously hurts himself
Furthermore, it demonstrates how we have to be cautious with guys like Eli, Acres, Dmac, even Lee etc

Re: Is Jack Billings a worry
No - he has shin splints and we are being cautious. Soft tissue injuries are far more of a concern. Billings is fine in that regard.
