Today: why the sub rule is useless.
At 3/4 time I was pondering who would get subbed off to give Eli a run. I was at he game and few players came to mind. I had a look at the stats which pointed to an exceptionally even spread - more so than many weeks.
Right down near the bottom was Brucey. He had at that point been shocking, and I thought was a good chance to sub out.
But Richo went with Goddard, keeping a possible ace up his sleeve if Bruce came good (which he did to a degree in the last).
My point is, you sometimes can't win if injury doesn't force your hand and it's a team effort.
Eli in his one term didn't do much and will probably get dropped.
Really shows up the sub rule at its worst.

Sub rule has always been stupid, pointless and a blight on the game

Agree the sub rule isn't working.
Personally I would have left HG out there to continue his learning curve.
In fact I would have subbed Riewoldt as he was clearly hampered and had done more then enough to win us the game.
Given him a spell as we need him for next week (actually every week).

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

The sub rule will be subbed out next year.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.
Re: Today: why the sub rule is useless.
No point in whinging because it sounds like the sub will go. Then I think people will whinge when they get an early injury and its 22 on 21.

I think a cap on the interchange (like 120 this year but probably less next year) will help mitigate that early injury as the other side can't just keep interchanging 4 players forever as they are capped. Therefore, both teams still have the same interchanges per game.plugger66 wrote:No point in whinging because it sounds like the sub will go. As ex-president Peter Summers said:

Yep but 4 players are resting for one side and only 3 on the other side. The cap helps but its still an advantage. That is why is was brought initially.

I don't like the way that the constant rotation of players has become such an integral part of the game. I'd rather there were four subs and no interchange. Then you could use it for injuries or use it tactically late in the game.

Goddard looked cooked a bit to me. He runs a lot for a big guy and he's carting around 100kegs or so. I don't think its bad to put a kid off once he's had a good run at it. You don't want to Kosi him.

Interesting concept. That's going back 40 years though.kosifantutti wrote:I don't like the way that the constant rotation of players has become such an integral part of the game. A decade ago interchanges were only about 50 a game.

Re: Today: why the sub rule is useless.
I can't fathom why there is a sub rule - it is just bizarre.
Why would you have 21 players being rotated like crazy through a game while one bloke sits there watching people work their butt off only to come in and play a quarter.
Just a dull and stupid concespt and IMO hurts the players used there - and don't get me started on the poor debutants that have been the sub

the sub rule does not change anything in that respect. If someone gets an injury it's still 22 v 21.plugger66 wrote:No point in whinging because it sounds like the sub will go. Then I think people will whinge when they get an early injury and its 22 on 21.

With a sub, both teams would have 21 rotating through the bench. If there are four interchange and no sub then it's 22 v 21.magnifisaint wrote:the sub rule does not change anything in that respect. Re: Today: why the sub rule is useless.
no interchange?
what, at all??!
f****** hell cant see that happening, and well it should not
4 on the bench
am open to having an extra (like an emerg sub in case of a serious injury, so its still 22 on 22)
