The only real baffling aspect of Richos coaching is his constant Longer selection.
Just don't get it.

Unless it poised toward a trade. I'd be happy to get back what we paid for him.
maybe he sees potential as I do.
Seeing potential is one thing.
Actually improving is another.
There's a strong argument to be made that Longer isn't any better at all than last year.
Meanwhile, if he has potential, what the he'll has Gawn got. Very similar in all departments except ability.
Also...He may well improve but there are others who, in the meantime, play his spot more effectively.
Longer better tap ruckman than Hickey and generally has put good pressure on contests in the middle. Hickey was trialed as a forward but didn't score enough. He did some good things but didn't creative enough opportunities and was less able to maintain forward pressure. Membrey was the better selection there. I f Billy is injured now maybe its time for Hickey but if not Billy should stay as the #1 choice ruck.
How do you think Longer would go permanent forward, like Hickey, played out of position.
Cannot judge Hickey in his games as a forward.

Based on today Hickey wouldn't have been an worse in tapwork
As a permanent type forward option Hickey's not the go but as a ruckman drifting forward he makes a dominant ruckman more accountable he is far more dangerous.

Must be two games Saints v Demons going on. Billy Longer has easily been the best ruckman on the ground.

based on today? missed the last quarter? Longer also a better defensive option than Hickey.

And our last goal was down to David Armitage - turned a crap kick from Jarryn Geary (what's new) into a contest.

Yes, I thought Longer got on top that quarter. Impressive for a 22-year-old.

He looks lost out of the forward 50. He probably needs to be dropped when Paddy plays. He isn't really a great back line player and is not really much of a ruck.
Get real. Bruce is our leading goal-kicker this season and should be played at full forward. Paddy needs to earn his spot with consistent goals and form.

I agree but if they choose to play him they need to leave Bruce out IMO. Bruce is one of my favs so no argument there but why play him away from goal?
Disagree here. The lead up type forwards are generally Nick, Paddy and Membrey. Bruce is great at using imposed pressure so there will be times he doesn't score well but others will take up the scoring difference.

Bruce can do spots in the midfield or even the wing given his ability to cover ground and follow up after his pressure. He will need rest from this and should be made to go back or forward based on the teams leadership direction.

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

Gilbert does a lot of work and provides leadership. He doesn't kick well so he needs maximum protection when he is carrying the ball. He must demand this from the team.

Gee I cant believe th run we are getting from the umps today. Their inconsistency really needs to improve. Jusyt applying more frees is not the answer. Ducking is ducking, hold the ball is holding the ball. Not just sometimes, not for 1/2 second sometimes and 360 swings other times with poor disposal. They are good although we are benefitting this week.

if the afl want to reduce stoppages how about simply paying a kick in when a player deliberately spoils a marking contest by punching out of bounds - put the emphasis on spoiling it in play.

when they are given a different directive every week it makes it hard to be an ump

Most enjoyable washing up,after tea watching the boys cruise along to another 4 pts.

And yeah desertsaint, the deliberate punching out of bounds has bemused me for awhile now since the hysteria over tapping over quietly became a free. It's actually ludicrous that it's still allowed

We seem to be on the good end of umpiring for a change, although most have been there. Melb supporters sounding like us after our rubbish run of umpiring in recent weeks.

They had the 7 highest possession getters and got smashed.
Paul Roos should be under the pump.
Oh well who cares. A solid win. Games into the youngsters and a win
