Re: Match Thread Saints v Demons @ MCG
McCartin looks lost. He is not ready for this level yet.
I am sure eventually he will be a good player but at this stage of his development he should still be playing at Sandy.
To make matters worse Roo does not look like he is anywhere near 100% fit, he is playing alright but is not moving as freely as usual.
Our disposal is truly horrible and the Demons seem to want to play a purely negative game.
We keep using these slow loopy kicks to players flatfooted and the Dees just keep picking it off.

Been a Schneider fan, but every possession today has been cute and caught out pretty much every time.

Don't agree with this at all. Longer has been competitive in many games this year, Gawn has beaten many opposition teams in hit outs this year.Sobraz wrote:Been smashed all year bar 2 or so games.Goose is king wrote:Longer needs to lift he's getting smashed.
The only real baffling aspect of Richos coaching is his constant Longer selection.
Just don't get it.
Unless it poised toward a trade. I'd be happy to get back what we paid for him.
We just need to take our chances and move the ball forward not sideways or back. The team all need to support this and confidence will build and the likelihood of turnovers then decline. We might actually see a more effective forward line without such a flood of opposition players with forward movement.
Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

Actually improving is another.
There's a strong argument to be made that Longer isn't any better at all than last year.
Meanwhile, if he has potential, what the he'll has Gawn got. Very similar in all departments except ability.

I see potential in Longer too but you can drop him to give Hickey a go too.
Unless Longer beats Gawn in this quarter I would drop him for next week.
Or even rest him.

He looks lost out of the forward 50. He probably needs to be dropped when Paddy plays. He isn't really a great back line player and is not really much of a ruck.

we want to win this, it's simple - start hitting targets - the team that does will get the biscuits.derby Street wrote:Gee we have got some unskilful players which is not helping our cause. Be good if we could start hitting some targets.

Also...He may well improve but there are others who, in the meantime, play his spot more effectively.Sobraz wrote:Seeing potential is one thing. The Fireman wrote:maybe he sees potential as I do.Sobraz wrote:Been smashed all year bar 2 or so games.Goose is king wrote:Longer needs to lift he's getting smashed.

Amazing what happens when you move the ball quickly into the fowardline
Lots of space and Roo kicks the goal

Flooding can be averted if players remain closer to nominated position and move the ball quickly. We kick badly at times and this costs us turnovers so we need the team to display team work and confidence in ball movement. Team effort needs to be placed on protecting the ball carrier,

Get real. Bruce is our leading goal-kicker this season and should be played at full forward. Paddy needs to earn his spot with consistent goals and form.gringo wrote:8856brother wrote:Time for a sleep. Bruce been struggling for a while now. Needs to lift.

Gawn is one of the form players this year. If he beats him thats great but Hickey wouldn't be any better.

Re: Match Thread Saints v Demons @ MCG
Longer better tap ruckman than Hickey and generally has put good pressure on contests in the middle. Hickey was trialed as a forward but didn't score enough. He did some good things but didn't creative enough opportunities and was less able to maintain forward pressure. Membrey was the better selection there. I f Billy is injured now maybe its time for Hickey but if not Billy should stay as the #1 choice ruck.stjay wrote:Also...He may well improve but there are others who, in the meantime, play his spot more effectively.Sobraz wrote:Seeing potential is one thing. The Fireman wrote:maybe he sees potential as I do.Sobraz wrote:Been smashed all year bar 2 or so games.Goose is king wrote:Longer needs to lift he's getting smashed.

I agree but if they choose to play him they need to leave Bruce out IMO. Bruce is one of my favs so no argument there but why play him away from goal?

Re: Match Thread Saints v Demons @ MCG
Roberton has been great this year, good nous down back, high efficient licking, leadership has been great and has been accruing many possessions to enable a more effective forward plan. I reckon he must be close to leading the Barker medal this year so far.
