First game back off a broken wrist. Give him a break. Club have given him a long contract so I'll trust them that the kid will be a player. Shown plenty of signs already.

SANDRINGHAM 12.16 (88) d WERRIBEE 11.9 (75)

Win/loss: Sandringham 9-4 / Werribee 7-6

Telling facts: In a crucial clash between two top-eight teams at Avalon Airport Oval, an inspired final term secured the Zebras another close victory. The Tigers went eight points up shortly after three-quarter time but that only sparked Sandringham, with two Ahmed Saad goals in the last quarter helping to draw his team even on wins at the top of the ladder.

Leading goalkickers: Murdoch 2, Saad 2 (Sandringham) / Porter 2, Iles 2, Munro 2 (Werribee)

I got there at quarter time and saw Wright leave with a bandage over one of his eyes. Did he cop an elbow or something?

It was a tight contest all the way through, so was a good win, especially given it was away. Richo was there watching.

anyone else who was there think Seb was hampered by his left arm- bandaged and seemed to hanging lower most of the time, he also appeared to be trying to shake of a stinger at one point

I did hear a bad corkie a couple of weeks ago in that spot.

EXCELLENT ! It's so good to see our reserves side doing well and being competitive. It's no accident (IMHO) that all the successful clubs (flag-wise) have had a strong seconds side. Thanks so much for all your great reporting too Bratty!

Yep. If he can get fit enough it would be nice to see him late in the season.

How many years has he been on the list again? Four or five? He's had awful luck. I hope he manages to snag a first team spot one day.

State league affiliate: Sandringham (VFL)
This weekend: Werribee v Sandringham - Saturday July 18, 2pm, Avalon Airport Oval

Darren Minchington was one of the Zebras' best performers in their 12-point win over Werribee, with his stoppage work outstanding in heavy conditions.

Fellow midfielder Josh Saunders was also lively with 25 possessions, while Brodie Murdoch and Ahmed Saad kicked vital goals as Sandringham came from behind in the final quarter and each finished with two majors for the game.

Luke Delaney was a rock in defence while Cameron Shenton kept emerging North forward Mason Wood quiet.

SANDRINGHAM has defeated Werribee by 13 points at Avalon Airport oval, further enhancing their prospects of a top four finish in season 2015.

Another poor start and the absence of injured skipper Adam Cockie meant the visitors faced a challenging task to win away from home.

Despite Sandringham kicking the first goal of the game three minutes in, the Tigers responded with four of their own before a Blake Acres major brought the margin back to 12 points at quarter time.

Back to back goals from the Zebras to start the second term levelled the scores, the highlight a running goal by Daniel Markworth (23 disposals, 1 goal) who showed composure and class to execute under pressure

DEVELOPMENT SQUAD:

Spencer White

Spencer booted four goals and had a hand in another five in a 100-point win. He presented well and took a couple of really strong marks.

Brenton Payne

Brenton was excellent across half-forward. He’s continually adding skills and attributes to his game.

Joe Baker-Thomas

Joe was good in defence although the ball didn’t come down to him all that often. His offensive work is improving weekly at the moment
.
SANDRINGHAM SENIORS
Jason Holmes

Jason had the better of his American opponent Eric Wallace in most of the key indicators. His hit out work was excellent and the way he tackled was again first class.

Nathan Wright

Nathan copped a poke to the left eye early in the second quarter and didn’t play for the rest of the game. He will be fine for this week but it was unfortunate that he couldn’t play out the match.

Daniel Markworth

Daniel played on the wing and provided good run for us and got a bit of the ball. The pleasing part about his game was that he had a good even spread of contested and uncontested possessions. He’s had a good two weeks.

Seb Ross

Seb returned to us from AFL level and was tagged all day. He could have gone into his shell, but he didn’t. Instead he fought through it and finished with 15 touches and seven clearances. We rated his game highly because of his endeavour and effort to try and break that tag.

Josh Saunders

Josh is Mr Consistent at the moment. He is providing a great deal of run for us and had 25 possessions on Saturday. He’s winning clearances and doing well.

Arryn Siposs

I gave Arryn a rocket at half-time because his first two quarters were disappointing. He responded and his second half was much better, leading up and showing energy around the ball.

SENIORS
Ahmed Saad’s sealer summed up how easy Sandringham ran out such a tough battle. Shrugging off a tackler, time slowed as Saad steadied, straightened up and kick an easy drop punt from 40 metres out.

The win puts a two game gap between Sandringham and eighth, with percentage now separating the Zebras and top spot.

Clint Jones, as he does on a weekly basis, led the way with 30 touches and eight tackles. Darren Minchingtonwas a handful for Werribee, collecting 23 disposals and a goal, while Brodie Murdoch continues to capitalize on his senior opportunity, finishing with 18 disposals and two goals.

Down back, trio Tom Lee, Tom Simpkin and Luke Delaney were significant, limiting the influence of key forward Majak Daw to just three behinds.

Next up, Sandringham hit the road again to take on Richmond VFL at Punt Road on Saturday afternoon as the Zebras look to make a charge for the minor premiership.

Development game
Just like the second quarter, the Zebras started the final term with a goal, this time from Blaine Coates. The intensity of the game was dead and it was just as much about avoiding injury as it was putting Werribee to the sword.

The final blow of the game came from Spencer White, who kicked his fourth right on the siren. Bouncing back after last week’s loss the best way possible, Sandringham finish the game how they started to run out healthy winners.

An opportunity presents the development side to build some late-season momentum, heading down Nepean Highway on Sunday to take on the Frankston Dolphins

Probably went at about 20% efficiency from what I saw.
Almost all of his possessions either missed the target or had his team under immense pressure from his opponent that it caused a turnover. It was easy to see why he was delisted and why no other club picked him up.

CJ would fit in well with seniors who seem to have all sorts of problems hitting targets either under pressure or with no pressure-it has cost us a couple of wins this season.

Maybe he should try kicking or hand-balling to the opposition, then maybe a Sandy player might get a touch.
