Time to stop playing our oldest team
I reckon its time to play more youngsters like Mckenzie and Acres rather than fielding our oldest team. Today we looked outclassed and slow. Skills absolutely killed us.
I would much rather see us start to play the kids. Thrown in Goddard and we are yet to try out Lee in defence. Our defence is old now.

You are clueless. If it wasn't for the likes of Fisher and Dempster we would have been beaten by ten goals.anthony_13 wrote:Are we not playing our oldest team?Bunk_Moreland wrote:Stop trolling.

Joey had 13 posessions in qtr three to give us a sniff.
Goddard is not quite ready and Lee is a kingsized spud down back.
Have you even seen them play?
As for troll, you never post when we win and only ever post about how much better other clubs players are than ours.

Re: Time to stop playing our oldest team
Well I partially agree with the OP. Ray, Gilbert and Schneider today were useless. These types of players can easily be covered by younger guys. Obviously the Dempster's, Fisher's, Roo's and Joey's cannot be easily replaced so you play those good players.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:

Re: Time to stop playing our oldest team
While Anthony is a troll, I agree that we are probably playing a couple too many vets right now... It's all good when you are winning by 110 points, but we get very little out of a game like today.
Lee might be a spud, but I'd like to see him play a few games to find out, think he's earned it.

Gilbert was terrible in the first half but was good in the second. Ray play a qtr FFS.

Re: Time to stop playing our oldest team
Gilbert, Faz, Schneider = list cloggers.
Faz and Schneids seem like great blokes and have been great servants for the club and deserve respect and a fond farewell- but it isnt a good bloke competition.
Gilbo - well he promised the world back in 2009, but he has gone well off the boil since then. He is now like Shane Watson. He will never fulfill his 'potential' and we have to accept him for what he is.

You said that about Fisher 2 years ago. Gilbert and Schneider will continue to play. Ray maybe in trouble.

Re: Time to stop playing our oldest team
No I didnt actually. I said Fishers body was his problem by his own admission - never mentioned form. Given he has managed just 26 games in 3 years, there is some truth to that.plugger66 wrote:Con Gorozidis wrote:Gilbert, Faz, Schneider = list cloggers.

Gilbo will continue to play because he is drastically over-rated by the club. He is our Shane Watson. He must look a million bucks in the nets.
Makes a lot of beautiful looking 20s but turns it over with poor decisions repeatedly (like Watson and his lbw reviews). A few good games for the year shouldnt be enough to get Schenider another year.

Re: Time to stop playing our oldest team
Retiring is not a disgrace. It isnt bagging a player. Brian Lake, Adam Goodes and James Kelly will hang them up this year, maybe Pav will also.. All champions. Are they no good?
People make out like retiring a player is bagging them. It's not.

Schneider, Gilbert, Geary were all really ordinary today.

Re: Time to stop playing our oldest team
While Ray in many ways doesn't deserve to be dropped, the selectors need to get D-Mac and Acres into this sideand he needs to make way.
Schneids is doing some good work with the forward line this year, but should probably make way for last 5-6 games to see where some others are at.

Nee!
Re: Time to stop playing our oldest team
Don't worry, there's only 6 games left and then some of those players will be off. I think Fisher might hang them up, Schneider will retire or be retired and Ray might also be tapped on the shoulder. Agree all were poor today but they weren't alone.
Re: Time to stop playing our oldest team
On the Facebook Q&As the club has been doing some asked about a couple of the young guys and the response was they definitely wanted to get games into a couple of the young guys, eg Goddard, Mccartin by the end of the season. Time is ticking away. If they want to stick to their goals something's gonna have to budge, don't see paddy playing unless roo or Bruce are out but Goddard should get a crack soon

Re: Time to stop playing our oldest team
Schneider, Ray & Gilbo all do well when the team is going well, but they make bad mistakes when we are under the pump.
Joey lifts and shows great leadership- the goal against the Dees, 13 touches in one quarter today.
Jack S got us there against the Dees as well and finds something extra.
The three I mentioned, are liabilities when we need them to show leadership.
Gilbo gets tackled or kicks badly, Ray and Schneids fail to execute.
Schneids cannot kick goals when we need him.

It's a disgrace that with exactly the same
team last week we won by 110 points.
How dare they play so well just to try and get selected this week?
They should be ashamed of themselves eh Anthony?

Adam Schneider

A lot of people will say he is now playing a different role which explains the dramatic drop off in goals (60% fewer goals/game). Point taken and accepted. But worth nothing that he kicked more goals in 2011 than the entire four seasons following.
But how do you explain the drop off in goal shooting accuracy (26% drop in accuracy).
My theory is being two yards slower makes you rush your shots.
Some comparisons from 2015 (15 Rounds played)
Betts 37.13
Higgins 27.16
Josh Green 19.9

I think it is easily explained. Schneider by playing more of a on ball role is probably further out when having shots at goal and secondly his legs are probably heavier because of playing an on ball role and thirdly age probably effects his accuracy. Still having a very good year and will continue to hold his spot.

Re: Time to stop playing our oldest team
I thought that the first quarter (again) killed us, and giving the Giants a springboard like that was always going to expose some of our veterans to the ravages of time and age. Let's face it, the side had an ordinary day (albeit against a top eight side) and the boys were given a reality check after all the hype surrounding the Essendon result. I have confidence that the Senior Coach and his match committee will address any issues from the GWS game.

Another good day in the office from Schneiderman. 7 clangers and 5 frees against. Leading the way again.
