Great player for the Saints. Would have him back in a heartbeat - if that were to happen - you never know

Ess would have to pay part of the salary though

It's called strength thru loyalty.
He didn't want to stick fat.

Fair enough.

I would love to have him back, but not sure where he fits anymore. We seem to have plenty of senior players to coach the kids. In fact we almost have too many senior players based on the team we've fielded these last two weeks.

The senior guys are playing really well and are keeping the likes of H.Goddard, McCartin, McKenzie, Wright, Saunders and Templeton out of the side.

I could't help wonder if Brendan had wanted to stay put with Lenny, Rooey, Joey & Chips etc.
Looking at it now he'd probably enjoy the new situation @ the Saints with the injection of young talent around him.
Could or would he want the responsibility to help guide the younguns like Rooey & Joey are now enjoying?
Who could have foreseen the shenanigans @Windy Hill - BJ could actually have been a lot happier right now if he had stayed.
I also always wondered if Lyon leaving persuaded BJ to do the same. Anyway no hard feelings. I always thought BJ contributed a lot to the success of the team that reached the grand finals 1/2 a decade ago. I'll always remember 'that mark' and him pointing to his heart that put us right back in the contest against the pies.
It would be interesting indeed if Bj did feel that something was missing for him @ windy hill and would like back.
I suspect AR would look @ it but no idea what he'd think.

Glad AR is coaching us right now.

GO SAINTS!

The boy can play and we can build a defence around him that will have respect.

No welcome mat for BJ at StKFC - he wanted out so he made his own bed.

NDS on the other hand will always be welcome back.

Who was the last AFL player to leave a club and come back as a player?
Trent Croad?

Last for Saints was probably Jack Daniels.

Player who did the "double" return was Carl Ditterich!

Did you see him on 360 tonight? Basically conceded he was worn down being the (non-injecting) face of the club. Could barely look at the camera. I felt quite sad for him. He chose it, but I can't ever believe he deserved this.

He looked like a broken man didn't he? There appeared to be no joy in footy for Bj these days. I too felt very sorry for him.

And that fool Slobbo reckoned that BJ was so good on the show. He either doesn't have a clue or has no empathy for his fellow man. Maybe both.

It was riveting to watch though.

"“For the first time for as long as I can remember I let the scoreboard and the circumstance dictate my effort,” he said.

“That’s as blunt and honest as I can be.”

“I can’t remember the last time I did that, I’m sure I did it as a young fella, particularly in my first couple of years where you tend to let the scoreboard and how the other team is playing affect your performance."

Now, that is, in my view an accurate account and an honest view of what actually happened.

It also gives, almost for the first time, in any report of the match that I have seen, credit to St Kilda for the way the Bombers reacted and then played.

I couldn't stand him at StKilda in the end - he stopped trying for us like he has stopped trying for Ess. His finger pointing was wearing thin as it is at Ess.
He did give me my greatest ever feeling at the footy though when I thought we would get up in 2010.

Rather than welcome BJ back, I would prefer we drafted Aaron Francis to play B.J's old role.

There is a big difference betwen keeping quality 30+ players on your list and bring in players who are 30+. To do so I think you would need to be in top-4 mode and missing a key structural player like a ruck, KPFor KPD . an even then you would have to think long and hard about it.

However with mids I think they need to be more like in their late twenties, like the Hawks who grabbed Burgoyne when he was about 27.

SAINTS
We only currently have 5 players aged 26-29, and no 30 year olds, and that is why we are ok with having 5 31/31+ year olds this season.

2016 it will be 7 aged 26-29 and in 2017 it will be 12 (So you can see our list should be really starting to fire up then - though note there wil be some delistings vs traded-in players too))

26-29 is arguably when players are at their prime as are well experience and physically mature.

DOGS
The Dogs have one 30 year old and four 30+ players on their list. Boyd and Murphy have been amongst their best players this year though.

They have 4 aged 26-29.
They have this year been playing more younger players in their best 22 as a proportion though. But they have had some of these on the list a bit longer.
They have 11 22 years olds the Saints have only 6. 18-19 year olds the Saints have 8 and Dogs 9

So we do not want to be adding to our older age group players.

As we continue to draft and trade-in we will see less 30+ year old players. But not if we pick -up 30+ year olds.

Over the next two seasons you will see the Saints age profile even out and become younger. I expect that we will contine to pick up both kids in the draft and some "value" young-ish acquisitions from other clubs (ie Bruce, Roberton, Membrey).

Some 30+ will go in each of the next two seasons. Possibly only Fisher and Schneider this year. Personally I see no need to rush them out the door as with the more professional traing that players do these days QUALITY players of the right type and "genetics" can play good football till their mid-thirties and even later. The question is not their age, but the quality of their game. But again I think there is a big difference in allowing a current player to play another year vs bringing ina 30+ yearold from outside of the club.

Roo is a freak, and subject to his knee and concussion may have upto 3 seasons left in him. Plus his extreme running is still unmatched and providesa point of difference other clubs do not have. McCartin may fill the FF niche but he will not play like Roo.
Joey could be another Boomer.

Note sure we will snag an elite FA this year. There is not much on offer. Value pick yes.

Elite FA ever? Who knows. I remain skeptical. Maybe when we look to be top 4. I certainly would find it risky to take an elite FA who gets paid bucket loads more than the existing best players on our list.

I want BJ back at the Saints after he retires in a coaching capacity. Has the makings of an excellent coach/assistant IMO

Not sure Saynta understands Robbo

He clearly meant that BJ was good on the show because of his honesty and openness, not because he made for entertainment

No club would want that for a developing group of kids. Fullstop. Nada.
