Would we have any interest in Harley Bennell?
Media speculation is he is leaving GCFC at the end of the season.
At his best he is electric, an out-n-out match winner but he is clearly going through a troubled time.
If we could satisfy ourselves that he is pulling his act together would we be interested or is the potential threat he poses too much for our club?
Does a young guy deserve a second chance?

Only for someone who can score regularily
You are garbage - Enough said
Re: Would we have any interest in Harley Bennell?
I would take him in a heartbeat but he would cost our first rounder and that maybe to much of a risk for him. Ability wise he is certainly worth a first rounder. And everyone deserves a second chance. This maybe about his third though.

I think the short answer is yes of course. He is a gun. Every club would take him.
But what would be the cost? What are the GC going to do with another low draft pick?
If I was the GC I would keep Bennell and get in another 25yo to help out on and off field.
GWS did well getting guys like Ward and Davis.

No the guy has serious issues. Have a look at Cousins and Kerr who both had similar problems
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Didn't effect their footy though.

Yeah but you don't know what influence they had on other guys. St Kilda is one club that needs to stay out of the limelight. Stuff like the school girl incident didn't help one bit.plugger66 wrote:magnifisaint wrote:No the guy has serious issues. Have a look at Cousins and Kerr who both had similar problems

Re: Would we have any interest in Harley Bennell?
Given they are getting rid of him GCFC are cutting their losses with one year left on his contract so what could they seriously expect?
Isn't it therefore up to the player to decide where he wants to go based on the interest and then the clubs to get the deal done?
In that scenario they are bound to accept pretty much anything the other club puts up in compensation otherwise he walks.

I agree but I think our club is really well run now and can handle most things. Finnis is a huge appointment considering he was the CEO of AFLPA. Players from all around Australia know him and he would know most players. I don't think we will do it but I think one club will for sure.

We'd have to have a look at him - too talented to dismiss without any due diligence

All I want to know is your point. Im unsure my family give a stuff what I do on here. And I cant work out why I am an embarrassment or a hero.
So again what is your point?
Re: Would we have any interest in Harley Bennell?
If GC would accept a >20 pick and an older player to steer them through troubled times, I would take him. We have a very good group of boys who could probably absorb one troubled player trying to turn it around.
A pick less than 20 is too risky I think.

Not a snowflake's chance in hell ! We've gone through hell and lost a lot of major sponsors. The club policy is character, character and then look at character.
We have a bunch of decent human beings and need to be known for that.
I didn't see the photo in the herald sun but didn't need to.
Imagine the headline if it were a Stkilda player !
Imagine the few sponsors we have running a mile !
We're obviously on the right path now. Why turn down a different road ?

We had our fingers burnt before on an absolute drop kick. We certainly don't need another problem player that his current club have given up on.howlinwolf wrote:Not a snowflake's chance in hell ! How do you know we don't have players who use drugs now or recently? Yep lucky there has been no photos but I would be just about 100% certain we have had one player with some serious issues and I think most people know that.
