My view too. There are some pretty poor judges of footballing character around here.gringo wrote:Anyway this thread reminds me of the Big mart hysteria over Jamie Cripps "dogging it". Poor form to question his integrity in his first year based on speculation.

Agreed, beating this up to something it is not.dragit wrote:Like I said earlier, from what I saw it looked like he was hit in the shoulder and as Essendon were taking a shot at goal I thought he was trying to reverse the free... He's clearly a tough cookie so let's not make this something that it isn't.

AFL MRP & Tribunal @AFLTribunal
The Tribunal will sit tonight after Essendon's Mark Baguley chose to contest his charge from round 14.

Baguley appealing. Does this mean that those demanding an apology may have to apologise?

If the punch connected to the head he would have got 3. If it didn't, as I suspect, he should have got nothing. 1 week was never satisfactory for either scenario.

Re: Lonie felled behind play?
Wont be surprised if he gets off, its one of those grey area ones. Is it low impact to the head because it was in the shoulder area and the impact affected the head or is it saying that he hit the head and it was not of enough force to be considered medium impact? It might be that our medical report played a bigger part than the vision.

Frankly I'm amazed at how he bounces back after the big hits. So fearless it seems inevitable we'll lose him to injury at times.

he accused Jack of Faking???
no mention of there actually being 2 contacts?- he originally elbowed Jack and then followed up with the 'slap'
he accused Jack of Faking???
Well done JackESSENDON defender Mark Baguley has successfully downgraded his striking charge at the Tribunal on Tuesday night, accusing St Kilda forward Jack Lonie of staging as part of his evidence.
Baguley, who could have accepted a one-match ban, pleaded guilty to striking but had the contact downgraded from high to body contact, reducing the penalty to a $1500 fine under the new Tribunal guidelines.
He accused Lonie of "faking it" when he went to ground in St Kilda's 110-point win over the Bombers on Sunday.
Lonie originally told an AFL investigation he had been struck to the neck and he stood by his version of events on Tuesday night under heavy questioning from former AFL football operations manager Adrian Anderson, who represented the Bombers.
Baguley pleaded guilty to striking but argued his hand had not slipped above Lonie's collarbone in the second quarter of Sunday's match.
After a marathon 90-minute hearing, the jury of Wayne Henwood, Shane Wakelin and Daniel Harford took 32 minutes to accept the lower penalty and free Baguley to face Melbourne on Saturday.

Let's keep this in perspective, Lonie ran at him and initiated contact off the ball... this guy took a swipe back at his shoulder and Lonie being small, it has slipped up to the neck. The Fireman wrote:"Courage"....belting the smallest bloke on the ground.

How has that spud Baguley managed 63 games?
that is the most surprising thing of this whole episode.
He rivals Dempsey as the worst AFL player in the League

Bullies- trying to brow beat the 18year old"I'm looking forward to playing this weekend.
"I was surprised that I got the initial sanction of two weeks down to one with an early plea, so I was glad that the club wanted to challenge it and we got the right outcome.
"I don't think it was risky (to go to the tribunal). I don't believe I made contact to his neck or head, so I stood by my evidence."
The Bombers had requested Lonie be present at the hearing so his testimony could be heard face to face, but the young Saint gave evidence via phone link, due to media commitments associated with his Rising Star nomination.
He contended that Baguley had struck him around his collarbone and that blow had carried on to make contact with the front, left side of his neck.
After an 80-minute hearing, that included inconclusive video evidence, the jury of Shane Wakelin, Daniel Harford and Wayne Henwood took just over half an hour to accept Baguley's guilty plea to the lesser classification, which attracted a $1000 fine that was bumped up to $1500 as it was his second offence.
Anderson, who was appearing as a player advocate for the first time, left the league after nine years at the end of the 2012 season and was responsible for a significant overhaul of the AFL's tribunal system

Re: Lonie felled behind play?
How is it Lonie's problem or fault if the AFL initially give weeks to Beggarly?
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!
