Re: 110 POINT WIN BUT.....................
Happily for me, I was WAAAAAAY too caught up in the brilliance of the Saints to,even notice the umpires! But will defer to the experience and knowledge of others on the level of their performances.

I wonder what the Club has to say about the inequality of many umpiring decisions?
I just hope that they aren't too weak to call it in.

Re: 110 POINT WIN BUT.....................
I would point out that with the Heppell one, he was backing up when the ball was thrown... Stitched us up good.
Re the umpiring- it would be nice if the AFL stopped changing the rules and having crack downs and all that crap.
Sam Newman had it right... It's not the ones u don't pay, it's the ones u do pay that spark the controversy. Just pay the obvious ones

didn't mind the umpiring, having said that the umpires are less noticeable in a thrashing but the standout for me was the tolerance shown with the head high contact(ducking the head) they let the game go on...impressive.

Re: 110 POINT WIN BUT.....................
I have never ever seen the Eagles lose a free kick count. Ever. Regardless of ladder position or game score.
And we hardly ever win the free count, regardless of ladder position or game score.
There has to be something to this.

Agreed. In fact watching the replay I thought they let few go that could have gone against us.FQF wrote:Umpiring seemed fine other than that ridiculous 50 metre penalty.

Re: 110 POINT WIN BUT.....................
It was the only stat they won, and winning that one was a certainty before the game had even began judging from past history. You explain it.amusingname wrote:saynta wrote:14 to 9 bombers way.#gosaintas wrote:I liked the way the game was umpired yesterday. No complaints from me.
Doesn't really prove that it was umpired badly, as it is rare that the free kick count would be dead even. Would 13-9 make it ok?

Just a lack of knowledge from you. Can you tell us our past history against Essendon?

Re: 110 POINT WIN BUT.....................
Relatively easy to explain. The umpires thought there were more free kicks payable to them than us, they are human also so there could be errors. I don't buy into the conspiracy against us because it doesn't make any sense. People were saying it is to do with gambling, then it is was that some sort of afl backed bias. Watch the game again, there was 1 clear error being the 50 (which they got sucked into by heppell), then maybe a couple of decisions that were questionable for both teams, nothing to raise eyebrows about.saynta wrote:It was the only stat they won, and winning that one was a certainty before the game had even began judging from past history. Re: 110 POINT WIN BUT.....................
.. haven't seen replay yet (this arvo @3) but an interesting observation
was passed here somewhere re the umps 'letting go' frees that 'could' of been payed against us.
... maybe thats a sign , that the wheel starts to turn in our favour.
Young respectful team , playing to the rules , no backchat on decisions
(whose got time for that shite anyway) could / should become umps faves.
(through simply being appreciative of our style)
... every angle helps.
... wonder if our coaches coach 'respect to the umps' ?

110 POINT WIN & MORE
Heppell getting that 50m was a leg up for them- couldn't help wondering how it may have went without that freebe.
Longer was good value he appeared to inject himself into the play on numerous occasions outside his ruck work.
I think I can see why AR likes him in the side - he's very busy.
Back to the team I haven't seen Saints pressure like that since Ross the boss was coaching the team into double chance positions. Enjoyed the senior guys as well - Montagna looks like he is really enjoying himself @ the mo.

The boy can play and we can build a defence around him that will have respect.

Re: 110 POINT WIN BUT.....................
Was interesting that the "On the Couch" crew last night highlighted inconsistency in the "holding the ball " free kicks, using several examples from our match, in the context that the bombers players were given far more leniency from the umpires and were not pinged, whereas Melbourne players in another match in the same round were pinged and had free kicks awarded against them.
Have thought our tackling has been unrewarded by the umpires for much of the season.

I think we would have won by 100+ points. But we did anyway.Megamaguire wrote:Heppell getting that 50m was a leg up for them- couldn't help wondering how it may have went without that freebe.
