Re: Poll - Do you want us to beat Essendon?
What is this nonsense about the Saints finishing 9th this season?
There is a vast difference bettwen rebuilding your list, with a key part being teaching them how to play winning football, and hoping your football team will lose.
Also I feel sorry for those that think that the only thing that matters is seeing your team win the Grand Final. What a sad-sack existance that must be. Note that some of those are not even currently members. No doubt they will just jump on board again in years when the Saints are playing in the finals.

When looking at these teams, I guess you need to think about which list you think is closer to a flag…
Are North, Richmond or Essendon any closer to a flag than Melbourne?
While I don't want to stay down the bottom for along time, I can see that Melbourne are building an incredible list in the past few years, which we are not going to compete with unless we add some more genuine A-graders.
I absolutely think that part of the reason we have shed Goddard, Dal Santo & McEvoy was to make us less competitive in the short term to ensure we finish low and gather very early picks… which in reality is just another form of tanking IMO. This form I am okay with, deliberately losing actual games is completely unacceptable.
Who knows who is closer to a flag. Richmond, Melbourne, WB and us haven't won one since the draft started 30 years ago so wherever they have finished in any years has helped or hurt these sides win a flag and because of that I want to take wins when I can. History suggests to those 4 sides that finishing high or low or mid hasn't resulted in this idea of winning the premiership.

Re: Poll - Do you want us to beat Essendon?
I hope we win today, if we don't I will console myself with some imaginary future gun from the draft.
FWIW I think I got more joy watching us last year to a spoon than I did in 2011 when we were clearly spluttering and on the wane, grinding out wind with 7 goals... Billings, Dunstan, Acres... Little glimpses from these guys give me more joy than winning with a team of fading vets...
I don't think Essendon are much chop, they look completely weighed down by the drugs saga again, so beating them will not mean a lot IMO, but a wins a win. Wouldn't be surprised if the bombers came out firing though as the players would know hirds job is on the line, they still apear pretty enamoured by him.

Yes there can be great joy from watching a team or a even a player, on the rise..
One aspect I look for is "how" the team, or an individual, is playing. I am quite bullish at present for even though the skill standard is up and down, most weeks at present am I seeing solid team-play being executed.

That somewhat resembles the score today.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.
Re: Poll - Do you want us to beat Essendon?
At a guess I would say it was non-Saints supporters who have accounts on Saintsational or Saints supporters taking the piss. As much as the so-called 'tankers' (I'm apparently one) want the highest draft pick possible I'm 99% sure when they are watching the Saints live they are cheering like any other supporter.SaintPav wrote:Who were the four pricks who voted NO?

In regards to Hird, as much as I want him to coach the Injectors into the ground (arguably he already has) it would be nice if we beating them today played a significant part in his coaching demise.

Yep what a real pity for those meh people. What a great win for those who don't care or know anything about tomorrow. Im guessing the Saints supporters are feeling better than any Essendon supporter. Hopefully we beat GWS next wee. How good would that be?
