Re: Newnes on radio 2/7/
He always acquits himself nicely and typically presents well.
Been an interesting year for him so far. Most were expecting a real break out year although probably hasn't been a standout considering a general team improvement.
Many picked him in their FF teams based on the pre-season noise and have been disappointed. He is clearly a very good clubman and drives expectations as demonstrated by elevation to the leadership group.
Can't help but wonder, considering the position he plays and the desire to get more top end talent in the door whether he might be offered up come trade period.
Struggle to really understand his real value given that he really hasn't starred to this point and there are many that could play his role.
Not having a go at the guy, I suspect his best football is in front of him.

There is no way he will be up for trade.
Isn't he in the leadership group this year?
As the season wears on he may come in to his own.
Last week was his best match for the season as far as I'm concerned

He is super consistent and does everything well with out a lot of tricks. He has the third most disposals at the saints, 3rd most marks, 4th most kicks, 4th most handballs, 4th most tackles and third highest fantasy scorer. That all points to a very good year and hardly a fail. He will be a captain one day. He has an outstanding character and is very mature and sensible. He is a bit of an invisible player to me, you don't notice him doing anything flashy but he just keeps getting into the play.

No doubt that was his best game this season and he is reasonably consistent. Would really like to see him get a BOG to confirm his potential as an A grader.RW&B wrote:Agree.Goose is king wrote:There is no way he will be up for trade.

Think it depends on how aggressive they will continue to be with the trading strategy. These days you have to give quality to get quality and Mcevoy was in the leadership as well so I'm not sure that's necessarily a show-stopper. He seems to drive standards and is definitely putting his hand up for the captaincy but is he the type of guy others will follow?
I don't know. It depends upon the internal perception.

But we aren't in a position to lose good young talent like when we got rid of McEvoy.
