Match Report - By Nathan Lay
Sandringham’s development side have bounced back from their pre-bye loss, defeating Williamstown by 13 points at Trevor Barker Beach Oval on Sunday afternoon.
In a heated affair, Sandringham was locked in an arm wrestle throughout the first half, but straightened up in the second to finish the game with a comfortable victory.
Arryn Siposs starred with 29 disposals and 9 tackles, while Yllber Zijai was impressive again, also collecting 29 touches and kicking a goal. Luke Verma worked hard all afternoon to finish with 18 disposals and 8 tackles.
Up forward, Brenton Payne was dangerous with 3 goals, with Max Hayes lively booting 2 goals and taking 7 marks.
While it was a low scoring start to the game, it was an open contest. Both sides struggled to punish turnovers and the game was even throughout most of the opening quarter.
However, throughout the second quarter Williamstown began to gain some of the ascendency, kicking away somewhat. Accuracy was again an issue for the Zebras, kicking 3 goals 7 for the quarter.
Despite the tight scoreline, Sandringham was fighting desperately to stay in the contest. Kenny Ong and Luke Verma lifted in the second, with a couple of very late goals to Ong and Zijai levelling the game up at 41-41.
The Zebras straightened themselves up significantly in the third quarter, kicking 6.1 and dominating the inside 50s 18-9.
Sandringham broke the game open and was beginning to punish Williamstown on the scoreboard. Brenton Payne kicked two for the quarter, while Daniel Markworth iced an improved display with a goal on the siren.
The final quarter started with Arryn Siposs hitting Matthew Kreymborg laces out on the lead, which Kreymborg converted the set shot.
While Sandringham lacked that killer blow and let Williamstown continue to threaten, the game was never in any danger of slipping from the Zebras.
The Zebras will look to continue building confidence when they take on the Casey Scorpions at Trevor Barker Beach Oval next Saturday morning.
I read a post somwehere too that White was un-impressive.

I had completely forgotten about Payne.
Kid is only 18. Who knows. He might go alright when puts some size on that frame.

Re: Siposs floats, White sinks....
Unfortunately from everything I see and hear it would appear that White is not going have his contract renewed.

DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE
Arryn Siposs
Was best on ground and played through the midfield with over 30 disposals.
Brenton Payne
Booted three goals up forward and looked really strong.
Spencer White
Spencer played down back this week and used his legs really well offensively.
Lewis Pierce
Lewis was terrific in the ruck and ran the game out really well.
Brodie Murdoch
Brodie had a good first half on the wing and then dropped off a bit in the second half.
Daniel Markworth
Daniel played on the wing and was pretty damaging with his ball use and running ability. He’s still working his way back into things.
Joe Baker-Thomas
Joe looked good in defence this week. His spoiling was excellent and so was his body work.

Re: Siposs floats, White sinks....
I reckon Simpkin will be the first with a line through. He isn't even looking like back up with Tom Lee looking like he has moved above him. White might get another year as he's only in his second year and was never going to be an instant star.saintspremiers wrote:Spencer Sippa and Markworth prob will be our first 3 delistings at season end.

No way will Markworth be delisted. Highly rated by the coaching staff & has attributes that we really need (pace, height & footy ability).saintspremiers wrote:Spencer Sippa and Markworth prob will be our first 3 delistings at season end.

Sippos, Simpkin, Scheider are definites.
White is a probable
Curren (contract position unknown?) should be under serious pressure.
Dempster & Chips possible retirements.

A good performance deserves recognition. I hope Aaryn can keep the ball rolling.
Whatever he had for breakfast before the game keep taking it !
Matkworth running again, that's just great to hear for his sake.
The candle is lit for no more injuries.
BEST OF LUCK Dan.

The boy can play and we can build a defence around him that will have respect.

You cant possibly say a guy who will have most not played a game in 4 years will no way be delisted. He may stay but I could understand if they let him go. It will depend on how many they want to draft.

No! I think that's what they say when there's absolutely nothing positive to report.GrumpyOne wrote:Did he kick someone in the nuts?saintbrat wrote:

Just crap to see all those guys playing such a low level of footy. It's no ones fault, but highlights how the vfl affiliation doesn't work with a short injury list.

Sippos 29 and 9 tackles is a positive.
Still time.
Still time.
"Now the ball is loose, it gives St. Kilda a rough chance. Black. Good handpass. Voss. Schwarze now, the defender, can run and from a long way".....
Re: Siposs floats, White sinks....
Was Sippos playing in the development league?
Surely he's now earned himself promotion to the VFL seniors. If he can replicate that form for 2-3 weeks at that level he might see himself in the senior team with about 6 weeks to earn himself a new contract. He can't afford any lapse in form though, time is not on his side.

Re: Siposs floats, White sinks....
Agree. Ideally some of the Sandy listed players would be pushed down but the stupid agreement forces a certain number of Sandy players that must play in the ones.lewdogs wrote:Just crap to see all those guys playing such a low level of footy.
