Patrick Cripps

Post: # 1560103Post anthony_13 »

This guy shows that you don't need a top 4 pick to get a gun player. Cripps from Carlton is an absolute gun and may be the best player taken from that draft as of now.
He is better than our billings and the Bont and he was like pick 9.
This is why we should win as many games as we can for the rest of the season and not worry about a top pick because it's about good selections.
Go Saints!!

Better than Billings? Please. There's more to footy than being able to win the contested footy.

So I wonder who's going to be the best pick in the 2013 draft next week.

More trolling from a serial offender…

Carlton are desperate for a key position forward and took cripps over McCarthy.

Dunstan & Acres will be as good as Cripps taken later in the daft.

Billings is a jet well ahead of all of them. Top 4 picks are huge

I am willing to bet $1,000 Dunstan doesnt overtake Cripps. Happy if you think Billings and Acres will be better but to claim all our boys will be better is just one-eyed in the extreme. PM m if you want to take the bet. (p.s Dunstan is older)

Cripps is good, but I would take 15 Billings possessions over 30 Cripps possessions (3 quarters of which are generally handballs) any day of the week. Cripps isn't capable of playing a game like Jack did against the Bulldogs earlier this year. In fact, not many players could. Plenty can get 30 possies at the bottom of a pack shovelling out handballs though.

I don't bet con, but happy to be accused of being one-eyed, probably fair.

Dunstan & Cripps are two months apart and their stats are basically identical.

The real issue with this thread is suggesting that Cripps is looking like the best player from the draft which is pretty over the top.

Very good player. To early to call. More importantly it shows that we will require great picking in the later picks because relying on one pick in the 20's to move up the ladder will mean we will struggle. We need the 2014 draft for the next 2 years and I don't mean because of our first pick.

Comparing Cripps and Billings is like comparing Ablett vs Priddis. Both Brownlow winners and very good players. Easy to tell the difference tho.

COmparisons are tough and it's pretty early to call. Damian Barrett loves the early call and often gets egg on his face.

As for Cripps, he's an out and out gun. He would be such a good player to have on our list because he looks to be an inside bull and have the abiity to run and spread. Other than Jack Billing's game against the doggies, none of our recent draft picks has been able to impose himself on matches and basically be the best player in our team like Cripps has. Thats pretty special, but in saying that, if your looking for absolute star quality and club champion type players, i think most mids are flying by 2nd or 3rd season...FWIW

Billings is a match-winner as we saw in the first Bullfrogs game. I expect that he'll do this quite regularly as he matures.

Doesn't mean Cripps isn't a gun player, but I'm very happy with our choice

Their stats aren't even close. Cripps is having a much better year, clearly the best performed this season from the 2013 draft.

Dunstan:

17.4 disposals (8.4 contested)
66.7% efficiency
2.6 marks
3.9 tackles
3.4 clearances

Cripps:

22.7 disposals (13.7 contested)
71.4 efficiency
2.8 marks
5.6 tackles
6.3 clearances

I don't think there's any need to moan though. Cripps is looking like a long-term top 5 player from that draft but there are still plenty of other guys with lots of improvement left. Dunstan was a very good selection at pick 18 and should be a solid 200-gamer. If you get a 200-game player with any selection it's a good outcome

He had an excellent third game against West Coast with 29 disposals, 2 goals and 5 tackles but that was the only time he had a real influence on the contest. He got in on the party against Freo as well with 26 and 2 goals as well but most of the team had amazing stats that day.
