Re: Gilbert cost us the game!
He probably saved one but cost three, he's never been a great user of the ball. We wasted too many opportunities so can't just point the finger at Gilbo alone.

Was Gilbert the ump that took that mark off Bruce or didn't pay the free to Membury?

His AFL career was over two years ago. We should have traded him in 2012, when he had some value.

Re: Gilbert cost us the game!
What about Minchington?
A pathetic 8 possessions (but did score a goal) in 3 quarters. Nowhere near good enough. That's costly also.
At least Gilbo got a bit of the pill, but did make too
many costly errors.

Gilbert has been a turnover merchant since 2011. Nothing new tonight. Stock standard performance. I really don't know what people expect from him.

Re: Gilbert cost us the game!
I don't mind Gilbo and he is in our best 22 but I had to chuckle when they had a 'press conference' to announce his return a few weeks ago.
Sorry, but that is bit of a laugh. He has not been a really good player since 2010.`
People get carried away with his athleticism, side step, height and tackling but he has been a poor decision maker for a few years now. Stock standard from him tonight. Not terrible. Not a star. Just a regular game for him. Does some great things, does some poor things. No surprises. Thats just the way it is.
AFL Player Ratings agree with me

Re: Gilbert cost us the game!
How is it that gilbert still has an AFL career?
It is harsh but he looks totally out of his league.
Totally off the pace. Clangers and shocking turnovers....they were painful to watching in an otherwise fantastic game.

Gilbert and the coaches that continue to pay him out of defence and Schnieder in the team!
SAINTS another day older another day closer to the Holy Grail!
Re: Gilbert cost us the game!
No matter how many positives Sam has he's always been capable of having negatives that outweigh all the good he might do.
(dopey darcy made a comment about how good a kick gilbo was - just another affirmation about how little he knows about footy!)

It's a shame ignorance isn't painful

One of the best kicks in the league apparently, had to wipe a couple tears away after that one.karnaby wrote: (dopey darcy made a comment about how good a kick gilbo was - just another affirmation about how little he knows about footy!)

(& wood was excellent, like Armo he's a great example that some players might take many years to really impose themselves on the game)

Re: Gilbert cost us the game!
Very strange thing to say. I guess noone has really seen Gilbo play in five years or so.SMS wrote:I think it was ling who said gilbert was one of the best kicks in afl.
People have golden memories of his stellar years in 09-10 when it appeared he would continue his trajectory and become an elite player and had the AFL world at his feet. But so many things have gone wrong for him since then. So many.

Re: Gilbert cost us the game!
Yep, Gilbert made a few mistakes but this thread is a f****** joke, The whole team turned it over so many times to blame one bloke is ridiculous. Roo missed a kick to a player 15 meters away, Schneider missed at least 3 handballs, Steven kicked it directly to the opposition so many times, in fact we gave up 8 of the 9 goals the Bulldogs kicked.
But hey, we all feel better kicking the s*** out of a few players

Re: Gilbert cost us the game!
Why aren't we picking on Schniederman anymore. He missed 2 easy goals. Bruce gave away free kicks, Steven Shanked a few, Ross turned over 2 in our backline kicking straight to the opposition. I'm proud of them, I had a bad feeling the Dogs were going to come out breathing fire and to our credit we took it up to them. We noticeably missed the finishing of Sinclair and Billings. Would have been worth a few goals between them. Bad kicking in front of goal probably cost us the game.
