Shenton, McKenzie Goddard.

Has Gilbert had a decent run at Sandy?

Hickey not playing anywhere this weekend?
Surely there's a nagging injury otherwise I'm super confused.

Lee and Minch are on the outer despite consistent VFL form.

Maybe we are staggering the season this year to prevent the second half drop-off and they get their opportunity later so we can inject some freshness into the side..

V Melbourne does seem like a sensible time to debut Goddard.

They're not alone. Saunders, Curren and Eli are all in good form at Sandy. Previously Acres, McKenzie and others have been in very good form and not selected for a few weeks running.

Form at Sandy is only factor in the selection matrix. On one foot, these factors are all taken into account:

1. Sandy form
2. Training form
3. Team balance/players ahead in the pecking order for specific positions
4. (As you said) Longer term season planning
5. Specific areas that a player has been asked to address

When we have a full list to pick from, and lots of young players all playing to a similar output, there will be people who are undeservingly left out. They will get their time.

One's on the rookie list and the other has never played a senior game, so they must be.

Don't see Goddard getting a run unless Gilbert pulls out before the game starts. I guess even the pregame is part of knowing what the big leauges is about.

Yep Roberton was good but Gilbert is in and if Hugh plays and we need another tall out goes Shenton and Roberton .
Think tony said Hugh might get a run .

Roberton wouldn't be far away from a top 5 BnF finish if the season finished tomorrow I reckon.

Reckon this is on the mark. Don't reckon they have enough big forwards to justify Hugh.

If any change I would guess Mckenzie in for either Ray or Sav, but unlikely I reckon.

The other reason was that they see this as very winnable so might prefer the more experienced side.

There is no chance of Roberton being omitted -he has been one of our best players this season

Gilbert coming in and Ray last week is starting do be a bit meh (or whatever that word is). We couldn't win the grail with those types of players in the side. It's a new side now and I would much rather see McKenzie and Goddard getting a run than the above two. I know we don't want to get rid of all our experienced players a la Melbourne, and this is a winnable game, and we don't ever want to get thrashed, yada yada yada, but still, meh.

As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
