TBH more interested in seeing a young Goddard debut and play a blinder so I can put another tick next to a future name that will be part of our next flag side and keep the hunt going to build the talent pool...

The win??....in the overall scheme of what Im after.......meh.

Im watching Sliding Doors this week...

Its about 2 football sides.....Saints and Tigers...
One gets on the 9th train and no matter what they do to build they stagnate, year after year, over inflating their list with wins against Dees/Lions only to be found wanting against quality....
The other (this is us), takes the immediate hard choice/hit, bottoms out with clear purpose, builds a talent pool with real firepower/elite ability and rises steadily to become a side thats feared and genuinely able to take it up to the big boys on the BIG day...

Margaret/David gave it 5 stars.
Im giving it 7..

Teffers the thing is that will happen without hoping we will lose. We are a bottom 5 side. I had us bottom. Doesn't that mean I ever want us to lose a game. Never. Does that mean I think we will win all games. Never. Ive picked us twice this year. I wanted us to win 10 times.

Oddly it means the same thing
So what separates our end states is:
You want to win and take whatever comes with that pick wise
I want to be assured Im getting top end draft choices to get the best pick at 5 or below

Top 5 sub 5 as Ive said repeatedly will do me
I never had us finishing last this season.
Had Boyd been available this year at 1 .....my strategy would be far more aggressive....downward I mean...
Besides, IF we guarantee top 5 ,sub 5 there is still a chance (slight albeit) of a priority pick.....wouldnt that be the cream? why risk that for 9th?
We need to be bold, aggressive and use this flawed system IMO

Happy to come 9th this year.

Means we will win many more games and as a true supporter of the club would be wrapt in the development.

I know there are a few who would be depressed about the Saints winning because they believe in some mythical future were we MAY pick up an A grader instead of a Jack Watts or Tom Scully, or pick a Kruezer wo plays one game a year.

Geez what a wonderful strategy to hang your hat on.

If we get to the finals but not top four, will you all be devestated and demand we rebuild?

'wanting' is wasted energetic output me ol fruit.

Given , that We ARE creative Beings ,
why ever should one 'want' something ?

... when successful creation of your want
can ONLY leave u with ... want.

(be buggered if i can see any value in that sort of pointless behaviour)
bit like finishing 9th really.

anyways , Accuracy is important even with semantics.
... especially , actually , with words.

You know , that boring ol 3 steps in Creation paradigm
... Thought WORD Action

I suggest , for successfull creation , thats worth a damn ,
u exchange the word 'want' for 'desire'.

Banish 'want' ... u know it makes sense
... u'll feel the weight of Lifes circlejerk dissolve off your shoulders.

Who is the biggest troll on here? not citywest. In my opinion Teflon and WindSister would have to be close with their loser mentality. These two posters make my stomach turn - sorry. Both seem to think that the draft is the panacea to all our problems. Yeah thats worked well for Carlton and Melbourne. Looking at Freo, Sydney,Hawthorn, I don't see their sides littered with top 3 draft picks -strange!

Draft hard time folks
You do realise that the GT Mantra back then was 100% effort 100% of the time?

ie a culture of winning.

Those draft picks were but part of the reason for the rise up the ladder. The final nudge came under Lyon with better coaching and a cast of role players and rejects from other clubs.

The Blues by contrast had more No1 picks, and brought in a superstar in Judd, but were a lot less successful. They tanked, everyone new they tanked and a culture of half hearted players was endorsed.
Are you saying the main part for the rise was GT belief clouds and these draft picks were mere bit players??
Umm... Ok.... I love re writing history too
Whenever you have lost the arguement, you try and distract by taking the piss. Teflon101. You know what I wrote, but instead you post made up crap.

As stated repeatedly to be successful, first a club has to create a culture of winning, and then secondly do many things very well. That is many things.

Have a look at our last two GF teams. Neither was loaded with low draft picks selected oririginally by the Saints. Nor will our next GF Team be.

Just thought I would have a peek at the various Phantom Drafts at present.

Despite where the Tankers want to finish, where we are likely to finish looks likely to gain us a good mid, which seems to be the type of player that most on the forum would like to see added to our list.

Also from what I have read, there does not seem to be statements that the No1 in 2015 is streets ahead of the next bracket of picks. Perhaps the Tankers can explain why Weitering is that awesome a player that he will take us to a GF over picking up a player like Parish????

ie 2015 Kinightmare Phantom Draft:

1. Gold Coast – Jacob Weitering (VIC – KPD)
Height: 195cm, Weight: 90kg, DOB: 23/11/1997
Recruited from: Dandenong Stingrays
Range: 1-3
Profile: Rapidly improving rebounding key defender.

2. Carlton – Aaron Francis (SA – DEF/FWD)
Height: 190cm, Weight: 86kg, DOB: 10/08/1997
Recruited from: West Adelaide
Range: 1-3
Profile: Dominant rebounding defender who also does damage forward of centre.

3. Brisbane – Joshua Schache (VIC – KPF)
Height: 199cm, Weight: 96kg, DOB: 21/08/1997
Recruited from: Murray Bushrangers
Range: 1-5
Profile: Dominant key forward.

4. St Kilda – Darcy Parish (VIC – MID)
Height: 181cm, Weight: 73kg, DOB: 25/07/1997
Recruited from: Geelong Falcons
Range: 1-10
Profile: High production, skilful midfielder.

5. Melbourne – Luke Partington (SA – MID/FWD)
Height: 182cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 05/03/1997
Recruited from: Port Adelaide
Range: 3-20
Profile: High production, damaging midfielder.

Names below please

Could you provide a list of Premiership teams and when they last finished ninth. No doubt it will be damning evidence against those who would prefer ninth to last.

BTW I'm not hoping we finish ninth, I'm hoping we win as many games as possible and finish as high as possible. Ninth would be better than tenth but eighth would be better than ninth. I'm sure you can work out the rest of the pattern.

I've said pick 5 or below all thread - from whatIve read Parish will do me
I do want to make sure of it though if there is any doubt
You want us to finish 9th though right???
I mean you're allanout maximising all remaining games as wins right?
So you don't want a top 5 pick at all and that to me would do us a long term disservice
As for your culture of success - starts with talent cause u so t getting much success without it

There isn't a formula. The Tigers are still building and could still have a moment of challenging in the next few years. Their years of ninth were on the back of poor recruiting when they were down. The Bulldogs have recruited exceptionally well in the last few years and look on the up with out tanking. Collingwood too. Carlton have been on the bottom of the ladder, recruited badly went up a bit and have fallen again. North went down have gone up but seem to have been unlucky in recruiting solid players rather than stars. Melbourne have had access to so many high picks they should be playing in the next 4 premierships on the logic that you take your place at the bottom for a few years and all comes good. Geelong has not bottomed out yet continues to pull out quality draft picks. Sydney rebuilt there list with hardly a blip. If there was a perfect formula for success everyone would follow it. For our time at the bottom we ended up with a few years getting guys like Daniel Wolfe etc then all of a sudden hit a couple of great recruiting years and we were able to build a list around guys like Dal, Riewoldt, Joey etc.We are not going to finish above ninth even if everything goes right we will get a quality player and if its a Bontempelli type pick we will possibly be better off. Sometimes there is less pressure from pick 4+ that allows you to get a Troy menzel, Stringer or Bontempelli who has talent but question marks.

Agree with much of that and totally agree about timing and being lucky with the draft pool available at the time
These drafts now, unlike those of recent years for both GC/GWS picks, are at least less compromised.
Regardless, you still have to pick welll I back our recruiting team - it doesn't matter what draft you get
Point here though is what choice/pick you actually end up with and that can be useful in drafting OR in trades so it has some value
I think Geelong/Sydney are poor examples for not bottoming outand most know why
Collingwood bottomed for a short period few years back and did well with Pendlebury, Thomas etc and won a flag
IMO in our current cycle we need greater options that give us the best chance to snare elite talent (midfield too!) if that's Parish this year then yes please - not interested in finishing 9th and hoping we get lucky after then with another Dal Santo at 13....
There's a reason the top handful kids in the country are ranked accordingly - we want at least one of these over the next 2 years IMHO, start the process of getting games into them and manage retirement of ageing champs which is undoubtedly coming...

Not sure but it wouldn't surprise me...
That's another reason we need to make sure we get a good draft selection this year and next .... priority picks ain't gone yet (hard to get but not out of the question), one of those on top of some gun draft choices and we'd be in very strong shape list wise...

I feel the whole landscape has changed though with FA. You now want to be ready to pounce and as such need to be as desirable as possible. Being where we are now with some on field success with out being top 8 is perfect. If we finish around where we are now I will be happy as we will get a high pick but still be on the rise in peoples minds. Managers are going to feel comfortable sending players to us knowing what we are working towards is working. It gives the place a winner vibe. Anyway I really can't see us making even 9th to 12th spot this year so I think you are probably going to get your wish. Im not emotionally mature enough to deal with losing unless we go down fighting and just get pipped. It ruins my week being watching us look pathetic.

me too - parish has the potential to be an absolute gun.

You want us to finish 9th though right???
I mean you're allanout maximising all remaining games as wins right?
So you don't want a top 5 pick at all and that to me would do us a long term disservice
As for your culture of success - starts with talent cause u so t getting much success without it
A top ten pick would be fine, there has been many a top ten that has gone well.

I am not expecting us to finish 9th. Looking at our last 6 games I doubt we will win one of them.

My premis is that if they did finish 9th, it means our development is way ahead of schedule and I would be very happy.

If we finish with a top 5 pick and pick Parish, I will be very happy.

I see it as a win/win situation when the team is rebuilding.

Oh and your PoV is valid and you are not a troll as some have tried to label you.

I disagree with your PoV however it doesn't mean we both don't want the same thing in the end.

Robust discussions are good, this has not turned ugly, and should continue if there are valid points to be made.

All good.

You are garbage - Enough said
