No kick to kick a kick in the guts
Sat through the game with the kids on the promise of getting to go on the ground after the game keeping them going. Then at three quarter time a message goes up on the big screen "there will be no kick to kick after the game". Really took the wind out of my little man's sails who had been practicing all week so as to not loose his footy in the crowd.
Ads on the radio say family fun - kids get in free, free pop-corn (it was nasty pizza flavour) and kick to kick. What's the go?

Probably because edihad are a-wipes.
What's with the food prices? You'd think they would have reduced them all in line with the MCG but OH NO. A pie is $3 (but only on a Sunday) and virtually nothing else is any cheaper than it was last year. Why can't a friggin pie be $3 every day? They probably buy them for 50c. Cheatin a-wipes!

And despite some indications that they were listening to fan feedback
- there was still the same distracting electronic moving signage right through the game
- talk and music right up to the bounce (which has it's own atmosphere)
- music and talk filling up all the breaks so you couldn't hear the person next to you
- and that stupid whiney blonde bimbo with the horrible screechie voice who screeched inanities at us

Pretty sure it isn't about 60 year old men but then some people are selfish. If the kids like it then its working. If they don't then it isn't.

Maybe I misheard it but in her in depth pre game interview with Richo, did she refer to one of our key forwards as Josh Smith?Enrico_Misso wrote:And despite some indications that they were listening to fan feedback

Um if people had awareness, kick to kick was just a trial.. And the trial is now over.. It is widely known if you paid attention..

Rubbish. Kick to kick is probably for day games only.clarky449 wrote:Um if people had awareness, kick to kick was just a trial.. And the trial is now over.. It is widely known if you paid attention..
With a 7.15 finish, there can be dew/slipperiness issues. It's all legal bulls*** that runs everything
And the food prices are a disgrace. Jihad bosses couldn't give a s*** about it. Arrogant pricks

Yes - we fell over laughing that a Saints 'Interviewer' asked our Coach about Josh Smith.kosifantutti wrote:Maybe I misheard it but in her in depth pre game interview with Richo, did she refer to one of our key forwards as Josh Smith?Enrico_Misso wrote:And despite some indications that they were listening to fan feedback

Also, What happened to the stats updates at Qtr, Half and 3 Qtr time?
We were waiting and waiting and they never appeared on screen?

The day you are forced to buy food at the footy is the day you should whinge about prices. And agree about the legal stuff but that's hardly Etihad fault. What about that moronic parent suing the local school because his kid hurt himself playing chasey. No wonder grounds don't like kick to kick on the ground.

Ummm no, it was always a trial at Etihad Stadium.... Please don't call rubbish when you don't actually know. That is all I ask...saintspremiers wrote:Rubbish. Don't disagree, but if a lot of those older people (read parents) get seek of mindless inanities being screeched at them under the guise of "engagement" then they may stop going, and if parents stop going a lot of kids will either not be able to go or will never be 'recruited" to the game as supporters to begin with.plugger66 wrote:Enrico_Misso wrote:And despite some indications that they were listening to fan feedback

Marketing a seasonal sport is not the same as marketing a once a year or one off event like the WWE wrestling. That comes to town once a year, and plenty of parents like me will endure an evening of it once a year because of a young child who loves the wrestling. If the footy is every other week and tries to emulate a similar "feel" people will not put up with it simply for the sake of their kids. "In event marketing" efforts at something like AFL need to try and appeal to as much of the crowd as possible.

Re: No kick to kick a kick in the guts
I've only been able to make it to one home game this year (vs West Coast) and the new 'match day experience' is bloody horrendous. Constant advertising, inane competitions and contrived attempts at generating crowd involvement really do detract from, rather than enhance the experience. I'm only in my early twenties but even I'm yearning for the days when the footy had its own unique atmosphere. Crowd noise built naturally before the bounce and after a goal rather than blaring top 40 pop music until play starts and then having the big screen obnoxiously instructing fans to cheer. Breaks between quarters were a nice change of pace and chance to discuss how the game is going instead of being bombarded with advertising and people screeching in your ear over the PA. I'll still usually take the chance to attend home games when I get it, but if I'm on the fence for any reason (other social options/take an extra shift at work/do uni work and stay at home and save money) the new 'match day experience' certainly is a factor that tips the scales slightly in favour of the alternative option.True Believer wrote:Don't disagree, but if a lot of those older people (read parents) get seek of mindless inanities being screeched at them under the guise of "engagement" then they may stop going, and if parents stop going a lot of kids will either not be able to go or will never be 'recruited" to the game as supporters to begin with.

If a parent didn't go because they don't like the noise then they are very disappointing parents. Pathetic actually. I had to watch Gymnastics for 5 years and couldn't stand the 3 hours for 3 minutes competition but you do it because you want to support your kids. If the kids love the noise and colour and you don't then bad luck. Live with it. Do I like it. No but its not stopping me from going. We really are a pack of whingers.

Re: No kick to kick a kick in the guts
Noise has nothing to do with it - my favorite place is in front of a fully cranked guitar amp. My issue with it is the fact that it is so contrived.plugger66 wrote: If a parent didn't go because they don't like the noise then they are very disappointing parents. Pathetic actually. And I don't have to subject myself to 33 hours of that crap per season to be a good parent. Sitting through 16 hours of cheer-leading competition in a weekend more than earns me my stripes thanks very much. And I don't necessarily think it's in my kids best interests to be subjected to hours of mindless, "Americanesed" drivel and develop an expectation that all sports events must be non-stop and that the "entertainment" must be continuous from when they arrive until when they leave.

Firstly I didn't mean you but surely you wouldn't stop taking your kids to the footy because its Americanised and you don't like it? maybe they do. Isnt cheer leading pretty Americanised?
Anyway its moot point because crowds are up. That may have nothing to do with the pre match entertainment but it also suggests that the entertainment isn't effecting the crowds. As I said I cant stand the noise but I can understand kids liking and I hope their parents would never say we aren't going because of the Americanisation of the game off the field.

Doesn't surprise me with the way Etihad management tend to go about their business. Disappointing as their were so many kids there on Sunday.

Everything catered for kids. I wouldn't have thought so. 20 minutes entertainment in a 3 hour timeframe is hardly all about the kids. I cant believe how selfish people are.

Re: No kick to kick a kick in the guts
Absolutely. The Americanisation isn't working. We just need to reflect on the '80s with idiots like Edelsten's attempts at it falling flat. The sooner they realise that the game is uniquely Australian and we need to keep as a uniquely Australian experience, the better. I reckon the spirit of Ted Whitten needs to be reinstated.matrix wrote:

The signs flashing on the big screens saying "MAKE SOME NOISE" were pretty laughable.
The Saints fans around me were pretty subdued for much of the game, but trying to artificially pump
up the atmosphere reeks of desperation by Etihad management.
