So who replaces Roo as leader?
Self explanatory but there will be a massive void when he retires. Should we prepare more now by playing him in more non forward rolls?
IMO we wouldn't have beaten Brisbane without him. How do we prepare for the future?

Re: So who replaces Roo as leader?
He will most certainly leave a couple of very big shoes to fill. At this stage, someone like Armitage seems to be a likely candidate. I'm guessing the plan is to get a high profile free-agent, before or, directly after he retires. Post-Riewoldt St.Kilda is going to be a very interesting and challenging era for the club. Let's try not to feel too daunted by it, as I'm pretty confident those at the helm quite meticulously planning it all out in advance.
Curb your enthusiasm - you’re a St.Kilda supporter!!

Why replace him?
It works well currently…. too early to speculate I reckon….
Maybe in his last year if we have too… would be nice for a youngster to break out…..

2 or more years before we have to worry about it.
Here and now it would be Armo, but who knows who will be be the obvious choice by then.

If we're looking to challenge for a flag in 5 years time; we need to look now for a transition.maverick wrote:Why replace him?

Hopefully Roo has another 2, possibly 3 years left in him. Surely no more for a forward.
I'm sure our coaching staff are considering all possibilities. Armitage could be the player; but is he a leader?

Would have been so nice to win the Essendon game without Rooey to get the belief in the group that they can do it.
Atm it would have to be Armo.
Wouldn't be surprised if Rooey tosses it in at the end of the season. He doesn't seem like he is enjoying his football and given what he has been through who can blame him.

Armitage now but I wouldn't rule out Newnes in a couple of years.

If and it is a big if. Fisher held up in the body department; would he be worth considering for a short stint?Armoooo wrote:Armitage now but I wouldn't rule out Newnes in a couple of years.
It would mean replacing Roo next year.
His leadership in the back line has been great this year.
Geary would be the other candidate.

Re: So who replaces Roo as leader?
Armo definitely, if Rooey wants to give it up.
Or could it be Rory or Danger???
Would probably have to give either the job to get the deal done

Re: So who replaces Roo as leader?
I think Roo will be around longer than Fisher (body and form wise) and Nick is more versatile (can play wing).linz wrote:If and it is a big if. Gears is not guaranteed a game (He played in our two worst games - Pies and Blues and we did fine without him v Lions).
Armo is not even 27 yet. Has to be a no brainer?

Since when is the captaincy of a club to be used as a drafting tool?saintbob wrote:Armo definitely, if Rooey wants to give it up.

nothing to say

Armo was with Hutchy, Caro said she thinks Jarryn Geary will be the nextlinz wrote:Did they come up with any suggestions?SainterK wrote:Question was asked on footy classified last night

Re: So who replaces Roo as leader?
Armo looks ready but doesn't seem to love the media bit as much as some. Newnes is a really impressive guy. He seems like a veteran when you meet him, performs well in front of a camera and is very good getting amongst the great unwashed. He has a good straight guy thing too, just seems like the right temperament. Armo is the kind of guy you would like to hang out with drinking cans. Geary is a pretty solid option too. Mav Weller, Hickey, Paddy Mac, Billings all have some future leadership potential.

I seem to recall there was a lot of talk around the captaincy being offered to Hamill to get him to the club back in '01.
