Re: We will target Sloane at end of season!!
To prevent any further speculation lets get both of Sloane & Sheil / Treloar. Wouldnt mind Scott Selwood from WCE also as a free agent. Dreaming I know but gees that would turn our expectations around quickly....

Not saying liz should be airing his/her thoughts on here but what gives you the right
I think it's a bit like any kind of statement that could be seen as offensive to elements of the public. You don'y really want anything on the forum that could be misconstrued as homophobic, racist, sexist or any other kind of isolation of minorities. I don't think anyone is saying don't have a view point that contradicts others just don't air them in public where it could impact vulnerable people. Elizabeth is a generally very highly regarded poster and I think she has enough runs on the board to think this is probably out of character but if it offends people they should speak up too.
Re: We will target Sloane at end of season!!
We do not need FA's yet because St Kilda are still 5 years away from playing in a Grand Final again. It would be a waste of money if we got Sloane this year. The earliest we should grab a FA is at the end of 2017. From there we can acquire a FA every year if we want, just like Hawthorn are doing now.mohannair wrote:After hearing from Ox on SEN last night, here comes the confirmation!!

He isn't a FA and lets face it you or no one else can give certain time frames like you love giving. And we wont wait till the end of 2017 to get a FA unless no one wants to come to us beforehand. That is at least a year to late. And what has the Hawks and us got in common when talking FA. Nothing. They are an older side in the premiership window. Even in 2017 that will be nothing like us.
Re: We will target Sloane at end of season!!
Really, we've publicly stated that we're in for young players for the last two (maybe more) off-seasons. Sometimes it's for real (Membrey) sometimes we miss out but drive up the price for competitors (Jaksch). Overall we have to trust our experts that we will not overpay and get good value. After some shaky moments in 2011-12 (Lee, Hickey) when I think in retrospect we probably paid too much for what we got, the last two years have seen outstanding results both in who we have traded in (Bruce, Savage, Membrey, Delaney, Longer) and in who we have not traded in but encouraged our competitors to 'overpay' (Jaksch, Whiley, Jon O'Rourke, Liam Jones, Stanley, McEvoy).
Personally I am doubtful that (a) Sloane really wants to move; and/or (b) that we will be prepared to pay Adelaide the price they would demand; and/or (c) that Sloane would be prepared to shaft Adelaide.

Hird... The unflushable one is now... just a turd...
Re: We will target Sloane at end of season!!
The difference is all those players cost us very little in terms of draft picks (take out Longer) so weren't huge risks. Whether they will make it into our premiership team I don't know about any of them (Bruce looking more and more likely as the third tall). But they gave us some big bodies straight away and have created a great sense of competition for spots. IF we trade away a high pick for Sloane I will be worried. The recruiters and coaches ARE capable of error and it can be such a temptation to go into "top up" mode when you look around at some of the young talent. But as Richmond and Carlton found some of the that young talent doesn't develop. It can also shift focus off development when that should be our focus for the next couple of years. I wouldn't mind seeing more of gap between us and GWS in terms of development years because they look a bit scary. If we rise too quick without the right foundation then we can end up mid table mediocrity like tigers and blues. Coaches always want to win and getting a player like Sloane helps that. That's why I worry about losing Pelchen as that contrary voice to look at the bigger, longer tem picture.Richter wrote: the last two years have seen outstanding results both in who we have traded in (Bruce, Savage, Membrey, Delaney, Longer) and in who we have not traded in but encouraged our competitors to 'overpay' (Jaksch, Whiley, Jon O'Rourke, Liam Jones, Stanley, McEvoy).

If he is not a FA then I would not go anywhere near him. Adelaide will want 2 first round draft picks for him I reckon. Probably one in the top 10 and another in the top 20. No way should St Kilda do that. No way!!!!plugger66 wrote:citywest wrote:We do not need FA's yet because St Kilda are still 5 years away from playing in a Grand Final again. Reporter dude on Talkin footy said Sloane has all but resigned with Adelaide. Just nailing down if a 3 or 5 year deal.

Happy for Sloan to stay with Crows
Great player but not marquee - Danger is marquee
Go for a gun in that that 22yrs age period IMO and keep drinking from draft well

Caro having an each way bet on Footy Classified.
Suggesting at the start of the season he definitely wasn't going anywhere, but strange that nothing has been signed.
Also pointing out that other clubs will be in the mix should he jump ship.
So basically nothing new from the FC "brains trust"!

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!

Sloane would be a great addition but I am worried about the long term cost benefit. So, I'm not too upset about news of him resigning.

Re: We will target Sloane at end of season!!
I dont think Wayne Hughes will like what he has seen of Sloane anyway over the last month.
It seems that Phil Walsh wants him to play as a traditional wingman and he spends most of his time holding the width and running up and down the ground through the corridor.
He very rarely goes to centre bounces and even at the stoppages around the ground he is outside the bubble either protecting the rear of the stoppage or the corridor. He has also only kicked 3 goals this year which is disappointing.
I would much rather a big bodied young mid like Shiel, Treloar, Prestia or Parker who can win their own footy, break the lines with pace and hit the score board.

Re: We will target Sloane at end of season!!
Sloane in all probability wont leave, but for people on here to suggest to first round picks is bordinging on trolling.
For a start IF Sloane was around at seasons end he is OOC, so Crows can ask for ten first rounders but are in no bargaining position.
Secondly the club has stated not in public that our first pick wont be in a trade for a Sloane type.
So a bit of knowledge before going off half cocked citywest. Or maybe you want us to trade Armo and Steven for him

There are plenty of OOC players who get full value because these days 2 things usually assure that happens, clubs don't want to do the dirty on each other and players don't want to do the dirty on their previous club. It would take a first rounder. There is no way a pick 19 or above would get Sloane.

Agree, how long until we can offer Luke Parker big money? Shiel and Treloar are guns we should be offering them anything they want. Gold Coast get off lightly in discussions too. We should be offering a few of their mids a chance to find a stable home.

Re: We will target Sloane at end of season!!
Hear the news we are offering him 1.2m??? That better be bogus.
After thinking about it ... We need to draft the best 22 year olds not 26. Sloane is good very good but not worth more than 700k.
Lets get trelor or sheil this year and keep working towards 2019+

Re: We will target Sloane at end of season!!
Probably his manager orchestrating some leaks to get some bargaining power to leverage a juicy 5 year deal with the Crows. And it suited St Kilda to play it up to advertise out intent for a FA to any unhappy players out there. Win-win.SMS wrote:Hear the news we are offering him 1.2m??? That better be bogus.
