Anyone got news on Acres?
Currently watching Sandy on 7 and he is just above most of the field.
Time and space, one passage of play on the wing was Pendlebury like, picked it up people all around him, held it with just one hand, sold the dummy for space and sent it forward.
Why don't we just have him on a half forward flank and giving him time!?

Re: Anyone got news on Acres?
Last week he seemed to make a really weak marking effort with one hand. Might be paying the price for that this week. He'll b a ripper

There's a limit to how many guys we can have in the side. Acres isn't in this week but I'm sure he'll play 10+ before the end of the year.saintjake wrote:Currently watching Sandy on 7 and he is just above most of the field.

IF he comes good he could be the polish we sorely need to go with some bulls on the inside....if he makes it we have done extremely well draft wise along side Billings, Dunstan, Lonie, Sinclair, McKenzie.

Might need to change his first name to Jack. But seriously he will get a game before long, maybe as soon as this week. I noticed Schneider copped a knock on the knee late on Saturday and Savage will face a test for concussion. The new guidelines on that are quite severe.
Don't know if it's a great game to bring him in for - could be tough over here - but going on reports from Sandy his form is good and he's a class above that level. Looks like he's next one up with Goddard not far behind him.

Who is Acres more like?
Pendlebury or Dal Santo?
Is his kicking elite? Decision making?
Can someone give a run down- best case scenario & average case of what we may get from him.

I've heard his kicking may need a bit of improvement.
Not sure about the Pendleburry or Dal Santo comparison. He does appear to be a good decision maker though.

He seems to lope along but he burn't off the Casey boys on a few occasions on Saturday and he keeps running which is good. Maybe he has a long stride.Vazelos wrote:Who is Acres more like?

He reminds me more of BJ. Similar style on the ground and is a good user of the ball. He looked all class in the Zebras game.Armoooo wrote:I think he's probably closer to Fyfe myself.Toy Saint wrote:I've heard his kicking may need a bit of improvement.

Clean ball handling and movement in traffic like Penlebury but without the elite skills and decision making. He will continue to improve those areas. Will be a gun.

It's actually a pretty apt description, both are talked up a lot, but we haven't seen them do anything at AFL level -yet.magnifisaint wrote:Definition: a person or thing that is mysterious or difficult to understand.Vazelos wrote:Thanks guys, still a lot to learn about Acres. Re: Anyone got news on Acres?
Acres has that uncanny knack of getting the ball out of packs and heavy traffic and onto teammates with clean possession, and those guys don't grow on trees. I'm thinking he might be putting pressure on Dunstan?

What's difficult to understand. Both were injured for the majority of last season. Maybe your expectations are too high.dragit wrote:It's actually a pretty apt description, both are talked up a lot, but we haven't seen them do anything at AFL level -yet.magnifisaint wrote:Definition: a person or thing that is mysterious or difficult to understand.Vazelos wrote:Thanks guys, still a lot to learn about Acres. I think most people will get it, players that are talked up as the next big thing for a long time without showing much. They are an enigma until they deliver.

Still early days. Second year on the list. Has only played 4 games. Injury affected first year. I realise you're not potting him Dragit.dragit wrote:It's actually a pretty apt description, both are talked up a lot, but we haven't seen them do anything at AFL level -yet.magnifisaint wrote:Definition: a person or thing that is mysterious or difficult to understand.Vazelos wrote:Thanks guys, still a lot to learn about Acres. There is though a bit of a tendency to have super high expectations of our young guys. They can't all develop at the same rate.
I'm feeling really optimistic that we have a bunch of young guys who will go on to be quality players. Acres could be one too. Needs time.

Re: Anyone got news on Acres?
He was injured a lot in his draft year but it didn't stop a lot predicting him to be a top 5 talent in the draft. So far he isn't as advanced as some of the others and I am in no hurry to rush him. He seems like he is going to be a good player on VFL form but I'm hesitant to push him up for the sake of potential when he is a long term project that could become anything. Let him knock down the door then put him in for a full game.

Re: Anyone got news on Acres?
Agree. I remember watching Dal and Joey running round in the VFL in their second years, maybe even third years - with people speculating that they might be good players. They just needed time to finish filling out and find their feet at AFL level.gringo wrote:He was injured a lot in his draft year but it didn't stop a lot predicting him to be a top 5 talent in the draft.
