I'm interested in Spencer's progression, so going back to my scale, are you saying that McCartin doesn't need much of a tweak to become as effective as a 10 game vet like Fisher, but Spencer will need much more work?tony74 wrote:Great question. Rather than development I consider it more like a "natural" footballer.
Holmes. 1
Spencer. 6
McCartin. 9
Fisher. 10
Plugger66 assumes he'll be cut at season's end because of the nature of his contract extention; how likely is it at this stage that he'll develop sufficiently to be kept on after September? You talked about his sence of where and when to run, does that mean other issues such as his endurance and determination are deemed satisfactory at this stage?
Interesting also that you used Fisher as an example of a natural footballer: do you consider him to be the most natural on our list? It's particuarly interesting due to the nature of his background: wasn't he drafted late, as a 24 year old who was borderline golf pro, or have I got my wires crossed?
No Austin I don't assume he will be cut but I don't think he just gets a free pass because he is young. He has a few faults that he has 18 weeks to work otherwise he certainly maybe cut.

@AFL_PKeane: ST Kilda rd5 changes - Weller, Webster, Hickey, Acres, McKenzie in for Shenton, Curren, Wright, Saad, McCartin.

Re: Changes v Bombers
Good changes. The INs have more upside than the guys who went out, bar McCartin.

Re: Changes v Bombers
Looking forward to seeing Acres and McKenzie.
Also interested in how the two rucks will work.

Ditto, we were a team of midgets in Wellington. On paper good selections, hope the boys can cause some chaos!Con Gorozidis wrote:Im loving the Ins this week.

AR thank you for swinging to the axe. Sends a message. Doesn't mean we are any closer to beating the drug cheats - but that's not the point.
Really like the ins bar Hickey - does this mean Billy will take Paddy's spot?

Re: Changes v Bombers
It will be interesting to see Hickey as a forward. If it works it'll really improve our structure. No guarantees though, especially with our delivery. Let's hope Webster is ready too.

Some good changes there.....and we still have Rooey and Joey to come back in.
Really looking forward to seeing McKenzie play!

Re: Changes v Bombers
Very happy with the changes, gives us a bit more height and some good disposal. Interested to see all of them play honestly. Good on AR for being ballsy and making changes and going with a more attacking looking team. (IMO)

I'd like to see Newnes get the captaincy this week. If not Newnes, then I would give it to Armo again.

Re: Changes v Bombers
I know selected teams on paper doesnt mean a lot - but Newnes moving back to half-back also seems positive if it happens. We can then use D Mac and Acres on the wing instead.

Re: Changes v Bombers
i wouldn't have thought so. at this stage in their careers, Hickey is a better bet to jag a few marks on the forward line.Junction Oval wrote:Without Rooey, the Hickey/McCartin choice is the key one for Sunday. Can Hickey's height impact the forward line? Can Bruce and Membery be influential enough, or would McCartin add to a more balanced forward set-up?
Acres the Sub.
Also I'm looking forward to seeing Longer and Hickey work in tandem in the ruck.

I thought giving Fisher the honour this week would be a nice reward for his service to the club.elizabethr wrote:Any ideas who will be skipper this week ?
Re: Changes v Bombers
Paddy McCartin, Cameron Shenton, Tom Curren, Nathan Wright and Ahmed Saad have all been omitted, with McCartin, Shenton and Curren named as emergencies

Nothing personal but I'm glad Shenton is out. WE can't afford to play him as well as Geary, Dempster and Delaney. I don't know if its cause or effect, but playing a guy we delisted last year in four out of the first five games says everything about where we are a club. We have a long way to go.

I just watched the Suns match. Shenton had an above average game.Bluthy wrote:Paddy McCartin, Cameron Shenton, Tom Curren, Nathan Wright and Ahmed Saad have all been omitted, with McCartin, Shenton and Curren named as emergencies

Re: Changes v Bombers
Cant argue with the changes.
Would liked to have kept McCartin in for another week, but hickey up forward will have to make himself a target, and apparently can ruck a bit.
Excited to DMac in the team, and Webster is a good in, hope he is match fit.
Would like to see Acres as the substitute because of reasons I have posted before, but with sure have some inside ball getters. Get the two Jacks, Billings and Steven on the outside with Savage and we may have some penetration.

You are garbage - Enough said
Re: Changes v Bombers
Yeah I give them props for being much bolder with selection this week. I think they learnt from the last couple of weeks that you have to be proactive and aggressive with selection. To see Acres, McKenzie, Lonie, Billings, Dunstan, Sinclair, Webster, Hickey, Longer all playing together will be damn exciting. With McCArtin and Goddard developing well and Eli working hard, that's a fair chunk of the future right there getting games, experience and starting to bond.HitTheBoundary wrote:Looking forward to seeing Acres and McKenzie.
