Longer - Disposals..

Longer normally wins few disposals, but his tally of 11 to half-time today is more than he normally racks up in a whole game.
Ditto with his 3 marks. Promising signs.
I love his well directed long (er) handball late in the second quarter.

Perversely though his taps have not been as well directed today.

Yep thinking the same thing. Guys putting in a real around the ground game. Really been in it. Some great clutch marks one perticular in defence 2nd quart

Roberton is the only one down back who looks comfortable with the ball coming out of the backline!
Everyone else is panicked! Doing some really good tackles too!

Longer is playing one of his best IMO.. Getting his hands, getting the taps and pretty good decisions as well.. Longer will be a very good ruckmen for us. I also think Hickey can be another very good ruckmen..

Don't go overboard. He only drew against their two ruckmen (Bruce had 1 hitout - and we didn't have a ruckmen at at least 5 contests I counted)

He was one of our best and deserves some credit. I was merely pointing out how rediculous it was to suggest he should get dropped after todays performance. Well done Billy. Improving every week. Can't ask for much more than that.

I was wondering whether Hickey being back in the VFL was having anything to do with Longer's efforts. If he drops off at all he could be out of the team.
On the other hand, if he shows that he is some value around the ground, there may be room for both.

Yeah i dropped him in another thread - thought he was ineffectual in the 2nd half - need a ruckman to be able to hurt the opposition offensively which I think Hickey can do moreso than Longer - sure he got a lot of hitouts but to what effect??

Obviously he is learning a will continue to improve but time for a break - maybe a bit harsh but i think Hickey offers more

Agreed. Billy is trying his heart out, but he looks ordinary. His skill level looks very low. Bring in Hickey!

Hickey played a full game a for Sandy today as a forward in horrendous conditions and didn't inspire. Holmes and Pearce played ruck and neither did too much.

Wew could if we want to but Hickey value isn't getting better playing all year at Sandy. I have no idea how they do this but we don't have the right sort of ruckmen to have 2 playing.

Can't we just be patient and to an extent roll the dice and just hang on to our young rucks until they've both played 50-100 games. Last year Longer 'couldn't take a mark', now he's starting to find the ball and get into better spots and pluck a few, all in a matter of 1 offseason. To say that we don't the right rucks to play two isn't giving any chance to develop and also natural improvement from big men which takes time. In the first half of hickeys first year with us I thought, 'this guy is s***', then he started to show plenty, but injury has interrupted him.

Fortune favours the brave and I think the brave thing would be to hang on to both and back that they will become a powerful ruck division for us.
