Heard from a reliable source that when they paid the non mark to Elliot Friday night a few of the SAINTS players ripped into the umpires about because it was Collingwood you paid that. One player telling the ump does EDDIE pay you to get them over the line.


The next quarter Collingwood received 13 frees to 1 and the game was basically over. Im tipping there is truth to this.

I hope that a player wouldn't be childish enough to say that. Sounds like something you would hear in under 11's. Im tipping there is no truth to that rumour.

Can say what he likes it shouldnt effect how a game is umpired but by the looks of it it did.

Quoted on Fox Footy then Triple M spoke about it Saturday. We got our first free in the 2nd with a minute to go on the back flank after they received 13. Pendlbury had 6 and we only had 6 as a team before we got that free to make 7.

I think they are corrupt and they are told by the AFL to make sure we never give the saints more than the opposition. Also I think they probably all bet on the result so they make sure we lose.

No. Both umpires ran in and paid the mark. The controlling umpire and for some reason the umpire not in charge. I was staggered at the time, and when I saw the replay it confirmed what I had originally seen.

Regardless of how crummy the umps might have been, it does remind me of many years back when I did a little umpiring, and some teams were so bad that I could have given continual free kicks to them and they still wouldn't have won. Possibly the umps on Friday thought that they might as well give the free kicks to Collingwood, as if they gave a free to the Saints, they would only cough it up anyway, and Collingwood would end up with the ball, so it was probably an efficient way to umpire considering how bad we were playing.

I thought we got a very good go from the umps in the GC match, so we shouldn't complain too much.

Surely the point of umpiring is not to give a particular side a "good run" or "bad run" but to umpire to the letter of the law and be bloody consistent about it.

We will never get to be one again if we cop the umpiring we copped in the GWS and Filth matches.

Umpires cost us the game against GWS, not a doubt in the world. Appalling.

Pies were probably a 6-8 goal better team than us, but got about an extra 5 goals with the help of the spiteful little egotists.

There was an attempt of a mark during the Freo v WC game that was very similar to Elliott's - and rightly it was not paid and play on was called - so where's the consistency??

Commentators even said at the time that they had seen lesser attempts paid earlier in the weekends match schedule (referring i assume to Elliotts attempt) which should not have been paid and that the umpires made the right call in the Freo WC game

Whats surprising to me is that if two umpires ran in to pay it then the mark was seen from two very differing angles - even on real time tv (another angle) you could see he never had control of it yet the umpires deemed he did - I can understand maybe one getting it wrong but two??

It was a pivotal moment in that 1st quarter with only a few minutes to go when we were leading by 2 goals and if it hadnt been paid we were out into space and who knows

Going in 3 goals up at quarter time may have had a significant mental effect on the players rather than going in one point up.

Not saying we would have kicked another goal in those last few minutes or even had gone on and won the game but I guess we will never know thanks to that one very poor decision

It was plain obvious that umpires got caught up in the thrilling spectacle of Elliott flying for that mark and as spectacular as the attempt was it was criminal that it was paid
