I think the match day coaching performances will need to improve significantly this year if they want members to turn up in droves. Friday night was a good night in terms of Sainters support, and to turn up and see nothing after quarter time was awful. This Collingwood side is a team in decline, and once again we saw Swan play his only good game in twelve months, and the same for Jessie White, was disheartening. Obviously we were underdone, but it would have been good to see at least a bit of tagging going on, particularly Pendelbury who did as he liked despite being injured.

Agree about the coaching- it's not all about the players. Last season AR kept raising the issue of outside runners killing us, and the lack of pressure on those running and spreading..well the last quarter against the GC was a worry to me in that area- the midfield were spectators for 20 mins of the quarter. I couldn't believe the lack of pressure on the Pies running brigade after the first quarter the other night. I don't see a lot of system or structure when we lose possesion, and AR needs to get his act together to resolve a big problem before we go forward.

Yep - well said Spert. As far back as the 1970s when Barassi revolutionised coaching at North, he always said that apart from the full forward and full back, every player on the field becomes a forward when our team has the ball, and every player becomes a defender when we don't have possession. Coaching 101. And there is no better time to learn those rules than when you are first starting out. Learn good habits early and it will just become instinct.

In the second quarter our structure...mid, fwd and back just broke down completely.

I honestly reckon we can chalk it up to some inexperience and a lack of onfield leadership. It is worrying, but it will get better over the next couple of years.

You are wrong there samuraisaint. I wish they were in decline but they are not. They have made some very smart trades and were also further assisted by Beams leaving and adding another 2 high draft picks and a player. I think they are a team that have stabilized and will go back up the ladder again without falling to the bottom.

I believe we had an opportunity to grab pick 12 for Armo and also let Steven go as a FA and grab pick 2 but we didn't go down that path. Collingfilth were brave enough to make those hard decisions but we weren't.

I thought about replying but I think you've summed it up well JF.
By the way CW, get your facts straight - it was the first five picks plus Buddy for Armo and we were getting O'Meara, Whitfield, Ablett, Dangerfield and pick two for Steven. I'm still glad we turned it down though.

Sure. You are aware that those two players got over 30 possessions in a team that lost by 12 goals. That makes them exactly the type of veteran that I want in my side when we challenge again.
Beams left them. They had no choice. He was going anyway.
I don't want to spend the next four seasons watching us lose every week by 100 points+ thanks.

In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

2013 is 1999, 2014 is 2000, 2015 is 2001, 2016 is 2002. Simple as that.

Just who were Swan and Pendelbury's direct opponents on Friday night? I would be very interested to hear AR's thoughts on how a midfield and pack clearances should be structured, and the work our midfielders are supposed to do off the ball, as I really have had enough over last season and now this of opposition midfielders running away to spread, and getting 10 metres or more off our mids who don't seem to want to chase or block this run and link up.
