Buckle up - 2 more years of getting our pants pulled down..
Almost 80 inside 50's against - F***!!!!!!
Looks like we will have no Friday night games next year after tonights display.
Oh well - at least we will have back to back No. 1 Draft picks!
Whilst being a Saints supporter can make you proud, it can also make you lose faith in what lies ahead..
As a club, do we really know what we are doing? I live in eternal hope that the answer to that question is YES.

Maybe you should take a holiday from footy for a couple of years. Come back when we've got a few players with 50 games under their belt. There will be more games like tonight. Hooefully they will become rarer as the kids get more games.
See you in 2018.

Fifth most inside 50s in the game's entire history!
First pick is looking pretty good at the end of the year.

Chill out matey. You can't go five years without any recruiting at all, then really poor recruiting under Watters with his WA forward hacks for another two years after that, and expect that we are suddenly going to be reasonable again. One Eyed Saint wrote:Almost 80 inside 50's against - F***!!!!!!

As I have said all along - 2 wins this year, 4-5 next year, and maybe the year after that too. Losing Fisher, Nick, Joey, Dempster and Ray, not to mention Gilbert, is going to hurt big time.

Re: Buckle up - 2 more years of getting our pants pulled do
This is the back lash that I worried about after the bubble bursting from last weeks great efforts. Six day breaks will hurt us. Young players being really inconsistent is frustrating but par for the course. Losing Rooey, captain and huge forward presence was a big blow. We put on great pressure upto qtr time. After qtr time we seemed to lose our hunger to get numbers to the contest. It was a bit mystifying. But you have to give credit to Collingwood who really ramped things up and were relentless with their pressure after qtr time. Add to that a much higher level of general class across the board to Collingwood and you get the extremely comfortable win tonight. We will bide our time and keep building up our young talent and get ready to launch in a couple of years. Patience my OP friend. Patience.

And I wonder how many 'fair weather supporters' didn't make the effort to go to the MCG to provide a bit of support for our struggling team............... too many fair weather supporters who only like to sit in a stadium with a closed roof is a problem for the Saints IMO

Re: Buckle up - 2 more years of getting our pants pulled do
I went tonight. The players had a crack, whilst the umpires were on crack.
We were cooked half way through the second term. But Armo and Steven stood tall like real leaders. Impressive.
And whilst Paddy is clearly not there yet, he found a few touches near the end and he didn't once drop his head. We don't have a Jack Watts issue with our boy.
Bring on Carlscum!

Reality has unfortunately, hit hard in game 3. It will be a long season.
I think that we will miss our aging experienced players more than I thought.
Expecting some of the young guys to "leap forward" within 12 months, may be too optimistic.

When did they start counting them? 1897 or was it earlier than that?samuraisaint wrote:Fifth most inside 50s in the game's entire history!

I went to the footy in 1897 and I don't remember seeing a 50 metre line at the time. (Although it coukd be that the Essendon players had sniffed it up before the game).kosifantutti wrote:When did they start counting them? 1897 or was it earlier than that?samuraisaint wrote:Fifth most inside 50s in the game's entire history!

I don't think we need to worry too much about where our next captain is coming from at least. Armo was terrific, in what turned out to be a shellacking.
From what I saw, Paddy moved to the right spots and his general footy nous to me says he's going to be a good 'un. His confidence seemed to lift the more the game went on - he'll get used to playing in the big league pretty quickly IMO.
I have no worries about him at all - he just needs to string some games together in the twos at this stage, and then give him a run later in the year when he's better prepared.
As painful as it may feel at the moment - I'd much rather be in our shoes than be where Carlton are at right now!

Re: Buckle up - 2 more years of getting our pants pulled do
I am not so sure about that.
A lot of our games were over by halfway through the second quarter last year and I don't care to have to sit through that all over again.
Carlton beat us by 85 points last year and when the writing was on the wall that a flogging was in the ether, no moves were made to stem the bleeding.
Hickey MUST come in for the NZ game, provided he goes alright at Sandy tomorrow, and players in the reserves rewarded for effort. McCartin has probably come in a wee bit early, but now that he is in, he needs to stay in for 6 games or so to allow for development. And that should be the same for Goddard when he comes in eventually.

Play the kids and keep playing them they will come good eventually.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Never agree with so many games in a row thing. If McCartin play next week and doesn't touch it he should be dropped. Playing again in the seniors after not touching it wont give him any confidence at all. I think he should play next week if the conditions look ok otherwise he is out especially if Rooy can play but that seems doubtful.
