Re: Saints v Pies Match Thread
Look, we're being belted now. It's not the umpire's fault. But WTF was that? 3 shite calls in a row. How did Steven get that against him?

You can't be serious, that umpire should be terminated immediately.
Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

Pendles ducks into a tackle for soft contact = free
Schneider goes for the ball, gets a knee to the head and was penalised
Unbelievable

Newnes sounds like he's not particulary tidy with the ball. Can he improve?

Contact below the knees is a free that only gets paid against us, apparently.

Our Disposal numbers are similar to them.. Finish is the problem. Although would love to get 10 frees in a row now. Something is not correct here are we that bad at giving away frees?

Weirdly bad kicking from Newnes tonight. He's usually better than reliable.saint6709 wrote:2 clangers tonight were embarrassingAustinnn wrote:Newnes sounds like he's not particulary tidy with the ball. Can he improve?

Reality check.
Dont blame umpires it is not there fault!
Collingwoods mids and quick clean hands killed us. We are geniunely a slow and poorly skilled side.

Re: Saints v Pies Match Thread
The 6 day break off an interstate trip was always going to be tough - umps kept Pies in it during the first quarter and after that we lost our legs - umpiring amazingly inconsistent but I think the result was probably inevitable given Roo was out and our side being quite inexperienced
Think we can bounce back against the Blues

Re: Saints v Pies Match Thread
Colingwood fans are embarrassing, the umpires were embarrassing at times with frees against Mav for tackling too fiercely even though his tackles were legal....and Cloke is embarrassing especially when he kicks from 10 mtrs out on a set shot OR when he tries to speaksaint6709 wrote:2 clangers tonight were embarrassingAustinnn wrote:Newnes sounds like he's not particulary tidy with the ball. Ppl are bagging paddy... It's only his first game and he probably wasn't even read for a debut yet!!! I'm more worried about billings tho, hasn't shown much, even his best mate Sinclair who we took from the rookie draft has shown more.

Re: Saints v Pies Match Thread
Would love it if someone could find out how many of our handballs just missed the target. I certainly lost count.
And what about kicking into the man on the mark or directly to a Collingwood player ?
And finally, just how many times did our players lose their feet or get easily knocked off the ball whilst their opponents held their feet.
Ugly last 3 quarters - and not the type of loss I would have expected at this time of the season. No excuses.

Re: Saints v Pies Match Thread
I couldn't see, was just listening, but it seemed to me that the problems were:
poor skills from players who were seeing a lot of the ball: Weller, Dunstan, Newnes, Schneider, a few others.
criminal umpiring
unable to find a second gear and stem the flow in the crucial 2nd quarter
A few key players in the Pies who were able to turn the game: Grundy, Broomhead, Swan, Oxley.
We were lucky that Cloke is such a junk kick.
I don't think we were disgraced, the margin is pretty big, we're just a bit too brittle at the moment. Webster and Ross will improve the side. We'll still beat Carlton.

Re: Saints v Pies Match Thread
Bit harsh on paddy suss, first game on a wet night was never going to be much fun.
I thought Roberton was super tonight, back to his 2013 form.
Bruce came back to earth & our younger guys looked more rushed with the greater pressure.
