Montagna.......groin? Saw him wince and feel for his groin after that torpedo attempt late in the last quarter.

Longer's game last weekend was severely underrated on this site. He did a very good job against one of the premier rucks last weekend. He was shy of breaking even however didn't let Mummy dominate.plugger66 wrote:Whats going on with Hickey? Anyone got any inside info? Saad ridiculously lucky.

Well we saw it differently then. maybe im showing my bias against Longer but I thought Mummy was huge reason for the win. I would have Hickey way ahead of Longer but im obviously wrong. I still cant work out Saad and I don't care if Shaw didn't have his normal game because 3 possessions doesn't do it for me from a forward.
Re: Team v Suns
Saad is a strange one. Apparently he did a good job on Shaw who only had the 14 touches. But I would've liked to have seen Saad hurt Shaw with scoreboard impact.

I'm not sold yet on Hickey but Longer is dangerous for Saints when he gets the ball....surely he's told to always handball.plugger66 wrote:Old Mate wrote:Longer's game last weekend was severely underrated on this site. Re: Team v Suns
Had enough of this We Love Saad BS.
Make him earn his spot. He was useless and gets a game.
WTF!
On a more positive note, Pammy isn't even an emergency.

Re: Team v Suns
Curren the forgotten man is back - to be Gabblets shadow I guess. Saad lucky but a lot of the tricky bit of the development years is working out who is to stay on the list and who has to go. So they are going to give players like Saad and Curren the opportunity to prove or disprove themselves on the big stage even if perhaps it isn't strictly warranted on form. They need to be grabbing every opportunity they get. Eli needs a good run in the 2's to get a bit of touch and confidence back so makes sense.
Re: Team v Suns
Yes mumford dominated.........how come result was only 9 pt win.
& of course when we appeared to be running over them they took out rooey.
very happy with young billys progress.

Re: Team v Suns
Curren So we have to bring in another defensive fwd to cover for Saad ?
And rushing Joey back a week early - gee that's unusual for the Saints.

We would have won if Hickey was the ruckman.Megsie wrote:Yes mumford dominated.........how come result was only 9 pt win.

Longer had no idea how to go with Mumford. He battled hard and will make a good ruckman eventually, he is only 21, but to keep him in at the expense of Hickey is just dumb.
Really dumb selection.
And how in gods naae did Saad and Shenton keep their spots?
Fair dinkum, we dont need to tank to come last

Re: Team v Suns
How did Saad stay in? Can't go through the midfield, hardly had a touch. I'm a little worried about Hickey also as I rate him quite highly and think he adds more than Longer at this stage. Perhaps it's a match fitness issue

Re: Team v Suns
Saad's retention I find interesting. I find it amazing that after not playing for 18 months, he was given a job on Shaw. Something he has never done before. I just don't get it. It was never his go. He failed miserably. Surely he's in side to kick goals and create pressure in the front half. He struggled getting the ball when he was an offencive player 2 years ago. Did they really expect him to hit the scoreboard whilst tagging someone?
Hope he can contribute this week.

Selection Insider:
- Billings to play forward with chance to play a bit of midfield because that's the plan for the year but as first game back then mainly forward
- Bruce game contest with aerial ball
- Membrey earned his spot
- Smaller blokes weren't as strong as should be
- Sinclair was strong
- Though Mumford got on top thought that Longer was pretty strong - heading in the right direction
- Weller likely to be on Ablett
- Steven wing and midfield
- Fisher milestone game
- Gears did terrific job on Smith (would put a smile on SainterK and Dragits face)
- Curran in for monty
- Don't want the backs to be dictated to - want to get the game on our terms
- Savage really good kicking goals late
- Fans gave great lift in last quarter

Re: Team v Suns
A lot here were saying Geary was the loose man in defence which is why he got so many possessions. I don't know which one is correct.Bluthy wrote:http://www.saints.com.au/news/2015-04-0 ... 9_25973489

Re: Team v Suns
Longer was very good but probably the difference against GWS. Longer needed to present a lot better when we came out of our defensive half. He did it well in the last quarter but went missing for the first three. that 'get out of jail' Mark at the defensive 50 is so important, hickey does thiswell.....must be a problem with fitness.Old Mate wrote:Longer's game last weekend was severely underrated on this site. Re: Team v Suns
I think Hickey must just be under done, and I agree that Longer's game against GWS was reasonably decent. Saad is a surprise, although I think he'll be wearing the red vest.

Re: Team v Suns
Still think we require another tall forward marking option - rather than so many smaller players. It cost us against GWS and am surprised they have gone with the same forward set up. Time well tell I suppose!

Re: Team v Suns
Changes since R19 last year:
St Kilda - 6 changes
IN: Geary, Lonie, Membrey, Saad, Shenton, Sinclair
OUT: Gwilt, Hayes, Montagna, Murdoch, Ray, Stanley
Gold Coast - 9 changes
IN: Ablett, Garlett, Hallahan, Kolodjashnij, Malceski, Miller, Saad, Smith, Tape
OUT: Gorringe, Hall, Herbert, Lonergan, McKenzie, O'Meara, Shaw, Stanley, Sumner
Interesting that they have more changes than us. Only six changes for us, three of those are players no longer with the club and the other three are injured. No-one who played last year in the R19 game is missing because they weren't picked.
I think that suggests that Richo is pretty loyal to a lineup. Once he gives guys a chance, he gives them enough rope to really show if they're good or bad. That's probably what's happening with Longer right now - he's the incumbent so either he does something wrong or Hickey does something really good to displace him.
