Other factors tonight:

- I don't normally bag the umpires but there was a double standard out there tonight re throwing the ball, dragging it back in, cheap frees in front of goals - you can put that down for about 4 goals
- Richo doesn't flood. He leaves the players out there one on one to learn the hard way. Its painful early but hopefull will make men of them able to win their own battles which is vital on grand final day.
- Hawthorns system is just brilliant. I realised tonight they use a zone system all over the ground not just defence. That's why they always have men in space ALL the frickin time. They don't all ball chase. They guy going for the footy has to go hell for leather to win it but others stand in space ready to collapse if the oppo get it but open to receive and spread if they win it. Its genius.
- Highlights the lack of disposal skills and footy intelligence in our team which we pretty much know. Turnovers against hawks just destroy you on the scoreboard and mentally. We are slowly doing something about it with drafting but it will take time. Even Steven doesn't really use it well.
- With Armo out and Lenny gone really shows how light on for genuine ball winners. Dunstan was a stand out to me tonight. Weller may get a bit better but he's just not a natural mid.

But I'm not panicked. Disappointing way to lose for sure but its the near full strength premiership team that could easily do a threepeat against and incredibly inexperience, experimental wooden spoon team in a praccy match.

I like the look of Sinclair. Looked composed.
Acres- at least getting his hands on some ball which is a start.
Dunstan, Newnes, Steven, Weller - these 4 seem like our reliables.

And didn't they punish us on the rebound, Bluthy? While our skills are not up to scratch, we'll be cannon fodder for the likes of Hawthorn. Remember, the Hawks dusted us by 145 points last year, when we supposedly had close to our best team in. Tonight was an improvement on that effort, when you think about the margin. Improve our kicking, which we are slowly doing by drafting those who can, and we'll see rapid improvement. There's nothing more disheartening than winning the all, getting it downfield, only for it to come screaming back over your head for a goal. Happened a bit tonight, didn't it?

His general agility in the play immediately following the ball up was good to see. Nothing worse than a ruck man who can't recover after the tap to effectively render you a man down. I think he has a bright future.

Commiserations Sainters didn't see the game but hoping there would have been more positive impressions.
I guess the players out there got a real up close view of what a dual premiership team looks like.
It probably looks a bit daunting for some but this is no doubt part of a rebuild from the bottom up. The Hawks of coarse are a team that have been getting better year after year of late and they must genuinely feel they are a real chance of 3 premierships in a row.
For St.Kilda it is all about development development development.
Losing Ross must have compounded our midfield situation. Lenny gone and Ray out as well leaves the younguns to fend for themselves.

agree webster is very very quick. even in that intra-club when saunders worked up a full head of steam and was at full pace - jimmy ran him down with ease.
webster also knows how to play footy.. webster on brad hill would be a very good battle imo.

That's TRIPLE premiership side. We played the best with a side with more holes than a tinker's knickers and remained reasonably competitive for pockets of the game. Let's build on that for now.

There is only one side in spoon contention and that is unfortunately us. Our best 2 chances for a win this year are round one against GWS and we have far to many injuries for that and then Essendon which we will beat if their players are suspended.
