We had this problem back in 07-08 toothesaint3 wrote:How can you put pressure on when your standing 15 mtrs away from your opponent. And when you do come at him he just pops it over to another player standing by himself...
St. Kilda Football Club. Going strong, since 1960

Man up? It isn't the 80's. What sides man up these days? Its bout zones. Our problem isn't manning up, its turning the ball over.

Re: MAN UP
I wonder what they do at the Saints player academy, maybe next semester they could introduce skills sessions...
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: MAN UP
Apparently, I believe it was one of Ross Lyon's great theories-you don't mind the man, you mind the space.
Can't say I subscribe to this theory in modern football, in fact it's rubbish.
For god's sake, just man up, and tackle blah blah blah.

Well 17 other clubs don't agree with you. I think you need to move into 2010 plus.

Re: MAN UP
I think zoning is the definitely the way to go. Sometimes we get 3 blokes who go for the man leaving 2 opposition players free. This is devastating when their one beats our three. In some senses I think we need to man up less.

Re: MAN UP
The trouble with Lyon is he tried Eddie purely to mind the space and he couldnt do anything else. You still need to be able to play footy.ozrulestrace wrote:Apparently, I believe it was one of Ross Lyon's great theories-you don't mind the man, you mind the space.

Having a game plan is one thing - having 22 good players to execute is another. Lyon tried to win with a good game plan + 15 players and 7 'role players'.
It almost worked too but not quite. You still need a side full of good footy players. Game plan alone isnt enough.

But sheesh when you turn it over or mess around with the ball you get smashed on the rebound by good sides and it makes u look silly.
Exactly. Any side that mans up would get smashed but worse still their coach would be sacked. Turnovers kill us.
