How many wins this year?

Post: # 1533604Post saintspremiers »

I know of one Saints fan that thinks it will be zero.

That hasn't happened for more than 20 years, so history says NO.

I'm tipping 2 wins. Not sure against who, and doubt we can bend over Freo three years running.

Maybe against Melbourne and Carlton.

I like our chances against:
Rd 1 v GWS at home
Rd 5 v Essendon with suspended players
Rd 6 v Bulldogs (without Cooney, Griffin, Higgins and now Libba)
Rd 11 v Melbourne at home (Melbourne can't play Etihad)
Rd 12 v The Bye (I think we've got them covered)
Rd 13 v Bulldogs (as above)
Rd 17 v Melbourne at the 'G
Rd 19 v Fremantle (we seem to own them in Victoria at the moment - hopefully we can keep that going)

We should be looking to win 75% of those games. Which gives us 5-6 wins
I am sure we'll cause an upset along the way.

There's enough talent there for 6 wins. Anything less is a big fail in my book.

If 7 is the pass mark I think you're going to be disappointed. In terms of talent on the list we are probably worst ranked in the league, which logically means no wins. Add in all the usual contingencies (form, injuries, momentum etc.) and we can probably scrape through with 4-5. That would be my pass mark.

I have my heart set on that we will beat the pies this year and it will create the discussion in the AFL of the downfall of Collingwood. Wouldn't it be sweet.

I'm hoping, no I'm believing that the kids will come on in leaps and bounds this year, much like the baby bombers all those years ago.

Add the return of Fisher, Gilbert, Geary and a fit Steven, 7 wins isn't out of the question.

I see no reason why we can't beat the Suns up here in Rd 2. The boys will be on a roll after beating the Giants and if a few of you guys fly up to be with me at the game - I will be in frenzy mode one week ahead of my trip to Turkey lol - we can bring the lads to 4 pts with our vocal efforts!

If we kept our best team on the park last year, we were better than a 4 win team.

Depends on our injuries - which hasn't started well.

Without injuries (significant) - 6-8

With injuries 2-4?????

Cant really tell.

Would love to beat the two teams who have disrespected us the most over the years - Collingwood & Essendon !

7? Wow that's optimistic.
I think 4 wins and I thought that was optimistic
GWS, Melbourne, Bulldogs, Carlton are games I would be disappointed with losses

Carlton in Wellington?
if we can split games against the giants, demons, and bulldogs, beat carlton, essendon, - add eagles, suns, & brisbane (if we play any of them here), and snag an upset against any other club. Then i will be happy. Four wins minimum please.

Three. We won 4 last year and we've lost the brilliance of Lenny along with Gwilt and Jones experience. I think people underestimate just how inexperienced our playing group is. The veterans bump up the average but that core age group of 23-28 is absolutely threadbare after poor development, injuries and trading out the likes of Goddard, Dal, McEvoy, Stanley. Even players like Ross, Saunders, Shenton, Webster, Curran who seem to have been around for ages have only around 20 games under their belt - barely a seasons worth of senior football. Newnes has 50 odd so he's sneaking up into being a consistent threat now.

Our biggest problem will be winning the ball from stoppages without Lenny our spiritual leader and blue ribbon extractor. We are going to be chasing a lot of tail this year. Our backline seem to be bonding well after a tough year last year. With experience and big, tough bodies, our backline may keep us competitive. I'd rather win 2 and have under 100 point losses than win 4 like last year but have huge blow demoralising blow outs.

I've never seen so many teams "on the up" than this year. We are about the only ones in a downward/holding trajectory - maybe include dogs after the loss of Griffen. Every other team is either on the upswing or like Hawks, Swans and Cats defying gravity and being perennial finals competitors. In what is going to be an incredibly tight competition for finals this year, we will eyed as a big percentage booster. Last year Richo showed some tough love by not flooding or being too defensive, leaving players one on one with their man which I admired. Its a tough way to learn, but it will make men of them in the long run. If the majority of your team can't beat their man in the Grannie, your team wont win. It'll be a damn tough year this year. How long can Rooey keep being an evergreen? If we can win two games by halfway I will be satisfied.

Zero? You would have to go back more than fifty years since Fitzroy did that.
We haven't gone a season without winning a game for a hundred years.

But yeah - maybe 2 wins. If Essendon get their suspensions we could beat them twice.

The drugs are good n cheap nowadays, so there is no reason not to believe it can't be a Saints Bombers granny.

That's what Hirdy's crystal ball (meth) says, and Richo always puts "no limits" on our group.
