Hamstrings - What's Going On
Ray - 12 weeks
Billings - 4 Weeks
Savage - 4 Weeks
Roberton - 4 Weeks
Add to that our other injury issues. Why are there so many again before we have even fired a shot in anger.
Disappointing.

Re: Hamstrings - What's Going On
Get used to a long injury list for the next few years...will always happen to a list with our age demographic (lots of young players whose bodies haven't matured enough yet and a few older players whose bodies are starting to give up). Having said this, it is annoying that Sav & D-Rob are injured as I wouldn't put them in those categories.
As long as we stay away from any season ending injuries (like the Dogs and WC) at this stage of the year I'll be happy.
GO SAINTS!!

Doesn't explain Ray, savage or Roberton. Does anyone know when these happened apart from Billings. Ray must have torn a tendon off the bone.

What questions? How do you stop soft tissue injuries?
You are garbage - Enough said
Re: Hamstrings - What's Going On
I guess you ask if they had twinges, if they had come back too early from hamstrings in recent weeks...
That kind of thing.
That kind of thing.

Re: Hamstrings - What's Going On
Reading the list it looks like both Roberton and Savage (to a lesser extent) are more precautionary than anything. Roberton out for only a week with a hammy and Savage for two weeks. Would like to know if it's an approach because of the time of year or indicative of how we will approach these type of things from now on - no risks.

Re: Hamstrings - What's Going On
There are a variety of potential risk factors for hamstring injuries.
Inadequate warming up and poor stretching
Muscle weakness or an imbalance in the muscle strength within the hamstring muscles
Muscle weakness or an imbalance between the hamstrings and quadriceps
Poor footwear
Recurrent injury when the muscle hasn't completely healed from previous damage.

wasnt that long ago I read we were fitter from a running perspective than last year - so has there been more focus on repeat sprints ?

Makes sense, billings, Roberton & savage probably didn't have great bases... Ray sounds like just a random one.Zed wrote:wasnt that long ago I read we were fitter from a running perspective than last year - so has there been more focus on repeat sprints ?

Nup. Poor management if there is a large volume in a short period. Not there yet but if it continues over the next month then it's not just bad luck.plugger66 wrote:Joe Bloggs wrote:There are a variety of potential risk factors for hamstring injuries.

Hate to say it, but we didn't have many when Dave Misson was in charge. No coincidence there. Just sayin'...............
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

So it isn't no. And it isn't poor management?

I hope this is not a case of training footballers to be super fit athletes rather than training footballers to be super fit footballers.

Re: Hamstrings - What's Going On
according to one of the coaches
Savage and Roberton did their within seconds of one another during a training drill- Dylan has had a good preseason after a really rough achilles situation last year.
I saw Farren go down during the game Saturday- and wondered that no one went out to him- again the coach said because he hasn't had many injuries over his career- may not have recognised what he had done.
