Re: Petracca out for year.
Shitty news for both. Feet are very hard to overcome for some reason. Patracca should be alright hopefully and will have a year just to adjust to AFL life and hopefully get his knee right.

Re: Petracca out for year.
Unfortunate for Fatracca and the Dees however he is not a St Kilda player so my care factor is minimal
The Devil makes work for idle hands!!!
Re: Petracca out for year.
Wasn't he doing extra running training to try and turn himself into a midfielder? Probably just coincidence but there is real danger in over training young players who's body is still developing the basics. It will be interesting to see how much longevity Ports young players have.

Seriously where do you come up with stuff. Who cares if its good for Paddy.
Probably most Saints fans.
That's not wishing ill will on CP, just a consequence of the current situation.
As I said - it only relates to 2015. Assuming CP (and PM) both play on 2016 it's a new ball game re comparisons.

Re: Petracca out for year.
So in others words it means nothing. I just don't get that anyone would think of that after a young kid does his knee. Certainly Paddy wouldn't.saintspremiers wrote:Who cares if it's good for Paddy?plugger66 wrote:saintspremiers wrote:Good for our Paddy. Gives him his first year with no one vs. two discussions.

Re: Petracca out for year.
Just looking at the Dees list versus ours. We finished 18th and they finished 17th.
Comparing players in the 40-100 game zone aka the 'improvement zone'. Neither list looks very inspiring at present. Id expect similar finishes next year. As discussed in other threads we have a stack of blokes in the 20-25yo group who are almost complete unknowns and haven't played many games. We only have 6 blokes in the improvement zone 40-100 game mark- they have 10. But their 10 aren't all that flash.
Watts, Jack 95
Grimes, Jack 86
Trengove, Jack 81
Howe, Jeremy 78
McKenzie, Jordie 78
Bail, Rohan 65
McDonald, Tom 60
Jetta, Neville 57
Pedersen, Cameron 45
Jones, Matt 42
Steven, Jack 90
Savage, Shane 70
Roberton, Dylan 64
Delaney, Luke 48
Weller, Maverick 48
Newnes, Jack 47
If this were a form guide - youd probably look to back others.

Exactly!! Had we picked Judd we probably would have had our second flag by now (according to some).....but I don't look backwards...... History is only good for one thing..Learning from! (not regretting)..... we can only influence Now..and tomorrow.......whiskers3614 wrote: Lucky we didn't take the bloke with the bung shoulders in 2001 draft!

....whilst I might carry some form of tribal hatred for opposition clubs..I certainly don't carry it for anyone who is capable of playing at AFL level (because they are all a sh!tload better than me when it comes to playing footy)

Re: Petracca out for year.
Howe is exciting and Mc Donald is okay but the rest are injury prone or spuds for them. Ours look better with one gun and a very good player and a heap of solid citizens.Con Gorozidis wrote:Just looking at the Dees list versus ours. We finished 18th and they finished 17th.

According to Josh Mahoney, he was taking part in a standard drill. He made a lead, tried to change direction and well, you know the rest. Let's face it, all of these guys are putting on way more bulk than they would with a normal lifestyle, I think sometimes their joints and ligaments just can't cope.

And 4 of our 6 players in that bracket are recycled
Re: Petracca out for year.
Just for curiosity's sake, can anyone remember draftees who had early long term injuries but went on to have great careers? Rooey was injured for most of his first year, for instance.
Re: Petracca out for year.
Just shows how fickle sport is. Last year he could do no more, fully fit fully firing - on top of the world.
This year, a completely different test

Yeah, I was going to mention that. From memory, he didn't play his debut until one of the last rounds of the 2001 season.bergholt wrote:Just for curiosity's sake, can anyone remember draftees who had early long term injuries but went on to have great careers? Re: Petracca out for year.
Selwood and Judd arrived with injury histories, Steve Johnson famously was rejected by Collingwoods medical department after Geelong tried to trade him out after he jumped down a fence after a night out drinking. Troy Menzel arrived with elastic knees and goes alright. Malceski has a couple of knees and now has rubber ligaments, Lenny had some knee dramas but came good. He should be okay if he's good enough.Sainternist wrote:Yeah, I was going to mention that. Rohan Connolly @rohan_connolly
Shocking news for @nathangrima17, back surgery, will miss 12-14 weeks. Important player & good bloke deserves more luck.

Re: Petracca out for year.
Fact is Paddy v Petracca debate will not take place for the next 2 years as Petracca will now need 2016 to adjust and develop to AFL football. As a key forward Paddy was always going to take longer to develop. I am sure our football department is not oblivious to what this means for our number 1 recruit and club, even though it may appear insignificant.

Re: Petracca out for year.
Bad news for the young fella..
Hope he comes back from this and has a long career because no kid deserves this.
I wonder if other fans were saying sucked in to us when bj did his knee all those years ago now?

Re: Petracca out for year.
Have nothing but sympathy for the young man.
He'll go on to have an outstanding career at Melbourne, I'm sure of it.
(It's an ugly thing to say but in the brutal world of winning premierships, it probably does tilt the scales slightly (at this very, very early stage) in McCartin's favour. Not that it is a relevant point in a moral sense. Get well soon, Pet.)

Re: Petracca out for year.
Vision of the kid being carried off the ground exhausted after pre Xmas training session. Where were the sports science guys? With the current obsession with run and spread the health of young recruits could be compromised! Clubs with young lists like Dogs, Demons and us need to tread carefully and balance the clubs.need for.improvement with the health and longevity of the young guys.
